  2. I added a snowflake eel to the tank yesterday. He is so beautiful! I'm kicking myself for not taking a pic of it before putting it in...ill never get a good pic now. Going to try hand feeding him some krill tonight maybe ill be able to get some decent shots.

  3. Upgrading my old 75 gallon to a brand new 93 gal cube. Upgrade from start to finish took about 3 weeks with about 2 weeks of cycling with about half of the live rock from the old tank and some crabs and a shrimp as the only livestock. Has been running for about a week now with all the livestock in it. All the equipment and live rock was moved over from the old tank but we did replace the existing substrate with new Aragonite sand. We did end up having one loss....the yellow tang didn't make it...not sure if it was stress or an injury while catching and transporting.

    Tank Specs:

    93 gallon Marineland 30" x 30" x 24" Frameless Cube Corner-FloTM Pre-Drilled - plumbing kit and glass canopy included

    Matching Ventura stand in black

    Tank Equipment:

Lighting - 1 Evergrow Dimmable Full Spectrum D120 120W LED with 90degree optics

    Powerhead 1 - Sicce Voyager 4- 1600 gph

Powerhead 2 - 1 Aqueon acp 700 - temporary while my other PH (Hydor Koralia Evolution) is soaking

    1 heater

    Sump Equipment:

12gal tank w/live rock only no substrate or macro algae

    AquaC Remora protein skimmer

Pump 550 gph - might upgrade this soon but so far its doing a good job

BRS Dual media reactor running GFO and carbon

DIY auto top off - 5 gal water jug and an aqualifter

    Substrate and Live rock:

40lbs Aragonite Seafloor Special Grade Reef Stand

approx. 120lbs of live rock - different types

    Livestock:

Fish - 2 clowns, a melanurus wrasse, a coral beauty, and a yellow tang

Inverts - sea hare, a bait crab from Galveston, coral banded shrimp ( I think this guy is the sole remaining member of the original crew)

Anemones - 1 green bubble tip (from dsquare) and 1 long tentacle, and 1 tube anemone (caught in powered during move but alive)

SPS - birds nest, and 2 others that I forgot the name of

Coral - Toadstool leather, pulsing xenia, waving hand from subsea that tried to take over my entire tank now isolated in the corner! and one chunk of GSP that I keep isolated on the sand bed, 1 green hammer, 1 lobo, 1 cabbage leather, 1 candy cane, 1 brain coral (maybe), and an whole lot of what I think is called Texas trash polyps

Zoas/Palys - I have two small frags that I got at the last frag swap but I don't know the names...one is pink...its my favorite!

  4. Old 75 gallon is completely torn down and moved and I'm happy to say that everything made it without too much damage. Some of the not so fun things that happened:

My large long tentacle was attached to the bottom glass and two rocks so I was really worried I wouldn't be able to get him off without using a credit card or razor to detach him. I wiggled the rocks a bit and agitated him a lil and he let them go pretty easily then I dug his foot out of the sand bed and gently pulled to peel him up and his foot came right up with no tears. He has already attached himself in the new tank and looks happy.

We moved everything that was left in the tank yesterday and drained it about half way. While moving the fish over I realized that the Wrasse was missing! Like completely just gone....so we checked sumps, the floor around the tanks, suction tubes, buckets etc and did not find him. So went to bed thinking he must have jumped out somehow and the cats got him. Luckily I left one power head in the tank for any crabs or snails that might still be in there...this morning around 11 am the Wrasse popped out of the sand and started swimming around the tank like nothing! Apparently he dug himself in at the first sign of danger and didn't come out til over 14 hours later...I had no idea he could do that!

I must have put a rock or something on top of the Tube anemone because he dislodged himself from the sand and must have gotten sucked into a powerhead. Next time I saw him he was on the other side of the tank and all his tentacles are gone. Still alive but not sure how long he can last with no way to grab food. sad.png

  5. He's still only about 3 1/2 - 4 inches across...he was about half that when we got him. He has once again been banished to the sump in the new tank because when I put the clowns in he immediately tried to snatch one within 3 seconds of them being in the tank!

  6. Upgrading my 75 to a 90....have the following items that need to go asap:

Milk Crate - 1 whole color white

Very dirty substrate - mix of aragonite and beach sand -Update- the sand is now sitting outside so it is probably not 'live' anymore.

  7. So the crab was fine...very active and super fun to watch...til it started getting a lil bigger. I'm pretty sure he killed my baby blue tang...I caught him eating it but I'm not positive that the crab actually killed it. But he was snapping at the fish if they got too close and also running all over the coral and anems with his sharp legs. So he got banished to the sump...currently he's happy in the 90 gallon before I move the rest of the animals over.

  8. Since my last post the tank stabilized nicely and I've been adding livestock. Currently in the tank are:

Fish - 2 clowns, a melanurus wrasse, a coral beauty, and a yellow tang

Inverts - sea hare, a bait crab from Galveston, coral banded shrimp ( I think this guy is the sole remaining member of the original crew)

Anemones - 1 green bubble tip (from dsquare) and 1 long tentacle

SPS - birds nest, and 2 others that I forgot the name of

Soft Coral - Toadstool leather, pulsing xenia, waving hand from subsea that tried to take over my entire tank! and one chunk of GSP that I keep isolated on the sand bed, and an whole lot of what I think is called Texas trash polyps

Zoas? I have to small frags that I got at the last frag swap but I don't know the names...one is pink...its my favorite!

**Livestock I forgot to add: 1 tube anemone, 1 green hammer, 1 lobo, 1 cabbage leather, 1 candy cane, 1 brain coral (maybe)

I got a new tank a couple weeks ago so I am in the process of upgrading. I will start a new thread for that one.

  9. I don't have a QT set up but I was able to get him into a small in tank breeder that floats at the surface. So no one can mess with him and he get out. He's still moving around and acting fairly normal...not sure he even knows he's sliced open :(.

  10. My red sea cucumber has a nasty tear near the middle of his body. His insides are coming out...and it looks horrible but he's still alive! I've read that they have pretty good rejuvenation abilities but this seems too bad for him to come back from. I'm also worried that he could be releasing toxins into the water. Not sure if I should let him try to heal or take him out. Has anyone had a sea cucumber survive a bad injury? Any advice is appreciated.

  11. Ok so I just tested again and the alk is 9dKh....so I must have counted wrong the last time? Not sure how that happened but yeah. Calcium is still really low...luckily I won a large SeaChem Reef Fusion two part dosing kit at the Capital City Coral Corral conference last weekend! Thanks for all the replies y'all...at least I learned something.

  12. Thanks for the replies. I have never seen any perticipation. I use water from Aqua Dome for water changes...the last time was 2 weeks ago and it was 20 gallons on my 75 gal + sump. I use RO to top off between changes. The test kit is relatively new...maybe a couple of months old. I have been dosing...first tried a liquid which did nothing now I'm using a powder which raised the calcium level but I was having to dose every other day or so to make a difference and it still wasn't high enough. Last time I tested the carbon hardness was months ago and it was on the high end but not this extreme. I'm going to test again tomorrow and also test the RO water. I was planning on doing a water change on Tuesday so ill test that water too. Everything in the tank..which isn't much...seems to be ok. I'm just stumped on what could be causing this.

  13. I tested for carbonate hardness today using an API test kit and the result was off the scale - 18dKh. Ph was normal at around 8.0. I know this is probably a bad thing but everything I can find on this topic is on how to raise alkalinity/carbonate hardness and lower ph. Is this something I should worry about and if so what can I do to lower it and keep it stable? Also, I'm having a hell of a time keeping my calcium levels anywhere near normal (it was at 60ppm today)...could this be related? Thanks for the info!
