  1. Hangin out in one place for a day, in of itself isn't the most alarming thing.

Are his soft "feeling" tentacles out at all?

Are water parameters off? They can be somewhat sensitive to temp, nitrate, & amonia spikes.

The signs of distress that I've seen in the past are: Loosing color (changing whitish or brown), shedding needles, or stationary for several an extended period.

Hope your is just taking a little siesta.

  2. Thanks y'all.

I've really enjoyed being a part of the ARC community, and this is an easy way to keep the good will going.

I've been quite impressed by how active and generous this group is, & it's been a pleasure to be a part of it.

Now that my tanks are growing & I have the opportunity to give a little back, I'm more than happy to do so.

    It does feel good.

  3. I received some freebies or great deals from other members when I got back into the hobby and would like to return the generosity.

If there is anyone starting out that needs a few corals to get their tank going, they are welcome to some fairy dust palys.

They aren't much to look at with the white lights on, but they glow a neon pink when under actinics or moon LED's. They are very hearty and grow pretty fast, so they are great for someone just starting out in the coral hobby.

    I've got 5 or 6 colonies ranging from 5 - 15+ polyps.

I could pull off a bit of green star polyp if someone wanted some of that as well.

There is no aptasia, mahano, or flatworms in the tank; although it's always a good idea to dip new corals before placing in your tank (I'm not always good about it).

I'd like some newbies to be able to take advantage of this offer, but it's also open to the community as a whole.

If you have something you'd like to donate in return, I'd be more than happy to get something new. I love softies (zoa, shrooms, etc)

I live in S. Austin (Slaughter & Manchacca), but work up in RR, so could do a quick drop off in the morning if need be.

  4. My 4th of July order came in today.

Acclimated them, and puttin those boys to work!

The pincushion is a beautiful purple, and chiton's are awesome.

Thanks for great communication and fast shipping.

BTW If your order from reefcleaners, be sure to try out their penny Gorgonia, & macro algae. You won't be disappointed!

    Thanks John

  5. I've always had great experiences with AquaDome, AquaTek, & RiverCity & always pleased with my purchases.

They have been very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. I wouldn't hesitate to shop at any of them, or suggest them to a friend.

I've never been to Fishy Business, so can't say anything one way or another. I'd like to check them out though.

On the restaurant side. If your on the N. side, you may consider giving the Oasis a look. Great view of the lake, last couple times I've been, the food was great. Unique place in Austin.

If you move to Austin, you'll find that there is a thriving Saltwater community of great people. Plenty of experienced advice, and tons of corals/frags to buy or trade.

  6. Yep. Bristle worm. People used to suggest removing them, but that was still pretty tough. They are usually nocturnal, if you can't get them out in the open, then they break in half and grow back. Arrow crabs are pretty effective at eating them, but you'll generally always have them to one degree or another. Certainly don't try to touch them with bare hands. Think porcupine....

Personally, I think they are beneficial. I've never seen them harm corals, and they are great at cleaning up left over scraps of food, or the occasional die off. Kinda cool looking.

While diving in Cozumel, I came across a whole pile of giant ones devouring a dead fish. These things were Massive & there was lot of them. You could barely tell that it was a fish they were eating on.

    I'd suggest leaving him alone.

  7. I dump it in the flower bed that doesn't have any flowers in it. All it's got in there is weeds, and it doesn't seem to both them at all, so not sure if it would hurt grass or not. It's right outside the door, so it's convenient.

To your rust situation. For that reason, I never dump salt water down sink or tub. If I need to dispose of salt water inside the house, I flush it down the toilet. I usually do that when I bring home livestock and need to dispose of a bag of someone else's tank water.

  8. I got a chance to swing by and snatch a few of these last night.

My lights don't do these justice, but Clint's full spectrum T5's make these bad boys POP. They are absolutely beautiful colonies and there is no way you could be disappointed with them.

Plan to get more than what you though, cause when you look in his tank, your going to want one of everything.

Thanks Clint. Was good hangin out.

  9. -Jestep: That Acan was looking WAY rough in that pic. That was a day or so after getting him home. At the lfs, he was in a tank that was running 83+ under a 250MH. He was completely retracted into it's skeleton, bone white, with a little bit of neon pink and teal around it's center.

I've had him in my tank for about a month, and it's been doing great. It's puffed out and it's feeding tentacles often come out. It hasn't really color'd up much though. Perhaps your right, and I should move it to even lower light.

I'll try to get some updated pics posted soon. I've acquired several new frags, and a couple of those frags were on pretty good sized rocks. The tank looks completely different now.

I'll also shift that acan to the sand bed and see if that helps him color up.

    Thanks for the advice.

  10. A couple weeks later (end of April), I rescued an interesting looking Acan from one of our LFS. I was picking up an emerald crab, and asked about the acan. It wasn't doing good, so they offered to let me take it home to see if I could revive it.

I also picked up a superman monti frag from one of our fellow reef a holic's on my way home.

I was thinking that the acan would do ok under the PC lights as long as it was up high, but not too sure about the Superman. I've had them in the tank for about 4 weeks now & the acan is doing great. The feeding tentacles come out all the time, it's opened up full and happy. The Superman is doing good as well, and has shown a good amount of growth, especially looking back at these pics. It's almost completely filled out the reef plug. The colors have held decently, although I do notice a bit of fading. I'll be moving the Superman over to my other tank and under the T5's pretty soon.

  11. After taking a few years off, the wife and I decided to get back into the hobby and keep a saltwater tank again.

We are both avid divers and love having a little of the ocean in our living room. Makes the reality of life a little bit easier to deal with in between vacations. ;)

So, I dusted off the BioCube14 that had been sitting on the back porch for the last 4yrs. Replaced the bulbs, and a ballast, & we were off.

A friend of mine has a pretty nice tank, so the next time he did a water change, I grabbed the water, cup of sand, and a couple small rocks, along with a few Zoa frags. A tank was born.

  12. Hi Dena.

Just an FYI. Even though the lights look like PC's, they are actually T5's. If you look at the bulb itself, it'll say 55w T5 on the base, and there should be a sticker on the reflector that says to replace the bulbs with Red Sea 55w T5.

The Red Sea Max 34 has the lights that look like PC's, while the RS Max 250 look like traditional T5's, so it should be a 34g tank.

I have this same tank and Love it.

    Hope that helps.

  13. My pleasure.

Anyone considering getting these frags won't be disappointed. The Raptors & Pink Zippers are Awesome! Same with the SPS's. Everything looks way way better in person; the pics do not do them justice.
