  1. When I lived in Austin my water pressure was insane, over 100 psi. I would call BRS, its possible that you have a problem with the membrane, maybe its allowing to much water flow and not building pressure. What is the TDS of the filtered water?

I haven't hooked up the DI resin chambers yet. I was trying to run some of the carbon dust out of the system first.

  2. How hard was this too install? Mine will be here Monday.

May need a booster pump. Almost ordered one with mine. Almost certain I will need it.

Well, all I had to do was mount it to the wall. Right now I'm just trying to use my hose bib on my exterior wall to supply the unit. Unfortunately my softener is putting the kibosh on my pressure.

  3. I just hooked my inlet to the hose bib at my neighbors (with permission). I got over 60PSI but the Flow Meter still told me to change the filters and never went 'green' to acknowledge good flow.

It must be a restriction my water softener is putting on the house. ugh.

  4. I just started up my 6 Stage w/ Chloramine's BRS Deluxe system.

Right off the bat the Flow Meter was beeping and flashing red at me. The pressure gauge is reading about 38PSI but has crept to 40 PSI. I'm pretty sure we have higher pressure then that at my valve by the street though. The sprinkler guys came out and tested my pressure before putting a system in and I'm almost certain they said I had 80+ PSI at the meter. Right now I'm just hooking the system to a hose bib on the outside of my house (RODi mounted in the garage).

I can't find much about required input pressure to run, can anyone give me any guidance? The Flow meter is telling me to change filters, but they're brand new.

  5. Make sure you rinse out the new sand (buy the dead sand, not the live sand). I'd put it in a bucket and run water through it until the water runs clear. It will probably take you 10-15min to get it to that point

Tap water is fine for this? Is there a brand sand you recommend? I've read some use ferrous materials that get trapped in MagFloats and end up scratching your glass while the "good" brands do not.

How much sand should I get for a Solana 34g? I don't think I want a DSB, so an inch or an inch and a half of sand is probably more than adequate.

  6. I'll be buying a 34g Solana next weekend if all goes well with a forum members upgrade to a larger tank and I was wondering what steps I should take to clean the live sand/live rock? I'm not sure the age of either of them, but I'd obviously not like to cause all sorts of cycle issues with stirring up the sand bed when the tank gets moved.

Should I just keep a couple cups/tupperware containers aside and run tap water over the sand in a bucket until the water starts coming up clear?

For the live rock I think it needs a good scrubbing and maybe a couple days in a lidded bucket? There's a little GHA on it.

    Thanks! :)

  7. I jut ordered an rodi chloramine unit from BRS today. Until I get it set up I get my water from the water jug on mays by the snow cone place. The water there ia as good as the fish stores on TDS. 7ppm when I measured the last batch I got compared to 365ppm coming out of my faucet. If you use the self service outside it ia cheaper bit it only takes $1 bills and coins.

Yeah someone else told me about The Water Jug. I'll have to stop in after I get some containers.

I was eyeing a RODI+Chloramine unit too, but my biggest issue is nowhere to store a sizable container for RODI water and no way to stop the flow once the container fills without baby sitting it. I suppose a float switch and a solenoid could work for that.

  8. I agree with James on the smaller tanks dosing can be avoided by regular water changes.I do 5 gal every Sunday morning. I mix my own saltwater and use (IMO) good salt which replenishes what is taken out.

Do you also make your own RODI water? I know you're in the RR area (if I'm not mistaken) and was wondering if there's an OK place to buy RO water around here? I won't have room for a RODI system (or tanks) for a while.....

  9. Probably whatever is easiest at first. I sure like the look of zoas though

I have quite a few zoas in my BC 29 and they are doing really well with no dosing at all.

Really? Well maybe I can save myself $40 here up front on calc/alk/mg kit...

  10. Truthfully, to get started you do not really need to be dosing.

Yeah, I realize that. But eventually I *WILL* have to dose (whichever way I go it's hard to say but I'm imagining most folks start of manually dosing), and buying the supplies up front and scoring free shipping from BRS is part of my motiviation behind ordering these now rather than later.

  11. You could run GFO and carbon in 1 reactor, like a BRS single. You'd just need some tubing and a pump to feed it. Not sure where you could place the pump in the back of a Solana though.

Yeah that's another issue (and more expense)... trying to avoid that for now. I don't actually hear too much about people running Carbon/GFO reactors maybe they're just an unsaid item or for bigger tanks?. I mostly hear about Kalk/Calc ..

Any thoughts on the rest? The supplements etc?
