Thanks man.  Clown perished.  He picked up some blanket remedies and saved the dead clown for the one guy in our group that has a microscope so hopefully we'll get to the truth of it.  And I couldn't agree more about a QT.  It's just not worth the consequences that you'll eventually pay.  

Please take a look at the picture below and see if you can identify what's going on here.  This is one of two fish left as the other have died overnight.  He says that he added some crabs and one small fish about 4 weeks ago and everything has been cool until yesterday.  He didn't QT the fish, but the LFS has a reputation of quality fish and no issues with disease.  I've been looking at disease charts and pictures and haven't been able to identify what's going on.  Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated as always.  Thanks all!

@mhart032 The tank will be built in with a big room behind it ( http://www.austinreefclub.com/topic/38984-designing-the-fish-room-help ) so there shouldn't be any noise issues. 

@Dogfish As far as I've been told the whole system was up and running three weeks ago.  The guy that owned it passed away and his loser children decided it would be fine to just turn everything off and let everything die.  He was separated from his wife and she's the one that decided to sell it all for $1500 but it has to be gone by EOD tomorrow.  House is being auctioned.  I'll make a full inventory once have it all in storage.  Right now I have everything moved to storage except the 150 and the 270. 

The H2Overflow kits look like they would give me all the surface skimming i would need and would be very inconspicuous as well. 

yeah and that's going to bug the crap out of me in the long run.  If there's no way to incorporate surface skimming then it's really not worth it to me.  I suppose I could mount a couple of internal overflow boxes, like you suggested earlier, around the holes like these:

As close to the top that the overflow hole is drilled I don't think one of these kits can be fitted to it.  I could use something like the overflow at the bottom though.  Thoughts?

So here’s the all that’s included for $1500.  Oh from what I understand, the guy that owned this ordered it built just like this for use as a saltwater tank because he ran the two overflow pipes through the walk into a closet where the sump was.  The other big tank shown is a 150.  All light fixtures shown (none are known names to me), chiller, 6 stage RODI, sumps, pumps, probably 300+ pounds of rock, reactors including a calcium reactor with two oxygen bottles, two MP40 wavemakers, frag tank, 40 breeder he used for a QT, salt, skimmers including that big one that’s about 3 foot tall (don’t know the brand), big UV filter, just a ton of stuff.  Oh, even includes a big Hayward pond pump and sand filter that looks fairly new.  

I’ve come across a good deal on a tank that I can use for the built in I’ve been planning for the new house, but the overflow has me a bit perplexed.  The overflow is basically two 1.5” or 2” inch holes drilled in the back which currently just has two elbows angled at a 45 with some guards across it to keep fish from going down it.  I’m thinking I could have a coast-to-coast built to attach to it instead.  What do you all think?

Oh, they were joking with the 13 step process.  I used to do a 3 step dip. Bayer, potassium chloride, and interceptor but really just plan to do Bayer and have an independent QT tank for corals.

So my usual dipping routine is CoralRX then Bayer.  I'm guessing by your comment above that would not be sufficient to kill anything and everything on a frag including velvet?  Can you share your "13 step dipping process"?  I don't want to hijack this thread so maybe via a PM or another thread?

That's a beautiful plumbing job.  I can never get it to come out that precise!  So did you paint the PVC blue and if so did it present problems when it came time to glue it?

What did you use to cover it and how long do you have to leave it there? 

Thanks.  I've been using 55 gallon drums made from white poly but really like the look of yours.  I have them for several years and don't remember if they're considered food quality either.  Oh well.  Thanks again.  Don't want to derail your build thread so it's all good:)

The specs on TractorSupply,com state that they're not made of food grade plastic.  Should that be a concern or not really?

I have the livestock in the temporary tanks currently.  I more than likely wont be able to get the big tank running again for several more days, so I am going to have to look into setting up some temporary lighting for the corals.

The only loss so far has been the pistol shrimp, which I have a feeling the melanurus wrasse thought looked like a good snack.  I probably should have made a better place for him to hide. 

I also got my water mixing station up and running.  Once the 240 is filled I'm going to pull the stand out a paint it with some waterproof paint. Just didn't have enough time to beforehand.

 

Where did you order these containers from?

Apparently I struck a cord with that question, lol!  I guy I'm helping set up his tank wants a blue fish, but I think I'll pass on these:)

So what's the advantage to using the Polygem vs dry live rock?  Is it the weight or versatility?  

I'm keeping a close eye on your progress as I think I'll be heading down the same path within the next 6 months. That's a beautiful tank. AEG did a great job with it. I'm leaning towards a horizontal overflow on whatever I have built. I was thinking about a 375, but I think a 300 would be more user friendly in reaching the front glass from the back. It'll be a built in very similar to yours with a room behind it. Very excited about the prospect of having such a large tank and very excited to see how yours progresses! By the way, I love the minimalist aquascaping:)

I got my new SWC Extreme 120 PS a few days ago and installed it asap:) I'm wondering if anyone else has one of these and what they have determined to be the optimum water depth. The documentations states 5 - 8 inches of water and I'm running mine in about 7.5 inches. I'm thinking it needs to be raised maybe an inch, but wanted to get some input on it.
