yep...what i did was glue / epoxy your frags down then it doesnt matter...but when i FIRST had a tuxedo i was attempting a zoa garden (awhile back) and it failed and killed lots of my zoas by dropping them behind the rock work where i could not get it : /
-
radiatas are cool but be REALLY extra careful....long spines are pretty sweet too but they'll get big after awhile...if you have your frags glued down tuxedos are awesome (i really love my orange/black/white one)...they will pick up anything they want though as far as rubble and frags go though
-
looks fine to me....you sure it is flatworms that are "killing" the coral? have you tested nitrate / nitrite?
-
Yea.... here's an article I used to help get rid of my dino problem when i had them awhile back.
http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2006-11/rhf/index.php
It just sounds like the problem is that there is not enough competing with the dinos to starve them out. Sounds like you're on the right track though. Definitely is going to suck while you're trying to get rid of it though!

If it was me, I would move the corals temporarily-leave the fish and let them run their course. It is a relatively "new" tank right?

For those that don't have this, it is definitely Tyree LE Miami Hurricane.
Gorgeous colors, the 4 eye frag I got from Brooks is growing terrifically.

FTS

Last picture is from the right side looking in. The one before it is as close to a "FTS" that I have of it now. It has transformed for sure. The one thing this tank has taught me, is PATIENCE.

This was my first BIG saltwater tank, set up to cycle in the fall of '09. Started with a small Eclipse tank, and this is what it turned into within months. This is pictures of how far the tank has come in the last couple years. I have thought about shutting down this tank more times than I can put into words...now I am glad I didn't!
I am going to post pics in order that they were taken, but I don't have the dates. Use your imaginations
These last ones are the most recent.
Hope everyone enjoyed

That is a beautiful tank with some amazing corals.
-
Drew, just make it however YOU like it. i like to leave space between the glass so its easier to clean and for flow (if there is stagnant areas detritus tends to build up). it is all about what you like.
-
Higher yes but nothing crazy. Enough light to keep their color. For me, mushrooms just kind of grow where they grow. Some of my mushrooms that have popped up in my tank are right under a 250w MH gettig blasted by flow and look fine, while some grew into the calmer areas. I think they would grow in a bucket w/ an air stone haha

jestep, appreciate the feedback! that's the input i wanted to hear. after looking further, i found that almost everything you said was SPOT on. that and customer service is iffy using cadlights. I have also looked at the ecoxotic setups, pretty clean. any other recommendations??
-
not really a "best" CUC....just depends on what you like and the purpose you want them to serve!
-
12g cadlight w/ the optional 40g skimmer and the 2x lights, states it has 142PAR@4". would make this a BB tank - anemone + SPS. i'd use water and rocks from existing system to start it. this would be a slick tank
-
How high and how far apart did you hang the par38's???
-
IMO, 20ppm nitrates won't hurt anything. don't worry!
-
When they traded up to #6 spot to get him I started screaming and cheering and all the people here in Louisianna thought I was crazy haha.
As far as this topic...call me crazy but I don't test. I was always messing with my tanks when I started, added stuff all the time, tested every day, just wanted everything to happen fast. If something is wrong with your tank you'll know, just remember that consistency in your system is the most important. Nitrates will happen, do a little WC if one of your corals looks mad and let the tank stabilize itself
My opinion of course...I'm no expert.

Yea that's what I was going to ask next...softies have that nasty chemical stuff, was gonna ask about what kind of carbon / filtration you were using to remove that if it was dying. I'd just add more carbon...pretty though
