Awesome update.  Your pictures came out really well I think

Thanks! That's good to hear. I'm excited to finally be able to take some good pics of the tank again.

Your corals look awesome! Can’t wait to get all my zoas back. What you described with the cyano and IO is identical to what I’m dealing with. I’ve thght about switching back to RS, and now I’m sure I need to. emoji106.png

I guess they changed manufacturing plants a while back and it just hasn't been the same. The price difference sucks but not as much as dealing with cyano. Hopefully you'll see the same difference!

  2. Long overdue for an update. Things have been mostly great. Had a few hiccups with alkalinity, nothing major just some swings with minimal damage. Randomly lost a big birdsnest recently that took down a rainbow Stylo growing nicely above it. It's been smooth sailing otherwise. Right now I'm thinking of adding some fish. Probably wrasses.

I ended up getting pics of the birdsnest as it receded. It went down fast! I did manage to frag a little of it.

This is the first time I noticed brown jelly, and right before I pulled it out

The stylo showing skeleton was completely white the next day. No other losses.

  3. I've been watching this interesting situation in my tank for a while. This setosa has another coral growing on the side of it. It's finally big enough to get a decent picture (credit to timfish) Eventually, hopefully, it'll get big enough to identify and break off.

  4. I've dealt with them in the past too. Before I had wrasses I got a Springer's damsel. Really nice looking peaceful little fish. I've never seen a flatworm since. I got that little fish 6 years ago and it's still going strong.

  5. I really like my leopard wrasses, and I feel all tanks need an algae eater of some sort.  I'm thinking your tank may be too small for a tang though?
I agree with this. What about a foxface if it's too small for a tang?

I'd highly recommend hanging fixtures from the ceiling before attempting to remove/refactor the overflow. Plus it'll look cleaner without any obstructions attached to the tank itself. It's really quite easy (and I also have very tall ceilings).

Edit: Just snapped a quick pic of my setup. Shout out to my new Longhorn Cowfish chillin in the center. Lol:

Ceiling joists didn't line up so I got some thin plywood from Home Depot (painted to match ceiling). Plywood to joists, fixture to plywood. Find center and mark it with painters tape across top of your tank. Then use a plumb bob either home made or a cheap Home Depot one to find plumb center. Easy!

I used four  wires here, because the Orpheks are incredibly heavy. With those lights you have I'd only bother with 2. Even easier! And to make it consistent, I used 8020 extrusions to make sure the lights were all even. The extrusions also make it 10x easier to attach to wire.

    8020 extrusions bought here:
    https://www.tnutz.com/product/ex-1010-c-1-x-1-smooth-180-bi-slot-t-slotted-aluminum-extrusion-new/

gusset for attaching extrusions to wire:

(Your tank looks amazing btw!) Another vote for hanging the lights if you can. It looks so much cleaner and you don't have anything in the way on the tank.

I finally got my Hanna reactants and tested yesterday. (I’ve been relying on api), and my PO4 was 1.26!!!! I had to look a few times to make sure it wasnt the timer still counting down emoji23.png. The no3 was 10! I do bi-weekly water changes, have an ATS, and have a MASSIVE external deltec skimmer so I was shocked it could be that high. I expected high, but not that much. So, I checked my tds and it was reading 12!! emoji37.png. So, I wasn’t sure if the tds was causing the super high readings bc it was so high, or if I need to up my nutrient exportation. Nothing is brown and everything is super happy and growing good.
I did change all the filters and DI. Also added a second DI chamber and now have zero TDS. I also added some phosphate rx to bring it down some. I don’t wanna do anything too drastic bc all my corals are doing good

Have you checked your new salt water for phosphates? I wouldn't worry too much if everything's looking the way you want. I mean, bring the phosphates down with gfo or something, but don't stress too much. Sounds like you're doing all the right things. Victoly would definitely be the one to ask about this, but maybe adding another carbon stage instead of another DI would be good.
