  1. I was breaking down a 150 gallon with a deep sand bed, and came across one that was around 3 feet long. Scared the crap outta me - it was the size of a snake.

I would have dropped the rock... busted the tank... then had a heart attack! doh.gif

I ordered more than I really need. If you are desperately in need of something I could probably share grin.png

well that is very nice of you!! may have to see about that. what did you get too many of?

I think snails are the only thing I really got a lot of, but did order a few hermits that I don't necessarily need.

  3. Wow! Thanks everyone for your responses.

I think I am going to try my luck without a skimmer at first. I currently have a 29g biocube with a skimmer that I hardly ever run. As someone mentioned above...I can look at my corals and tell when something is not exactly right...hopefully I have the same luck with the 40. If not, I have several good references for skimmers grin.png

    Thanks Again,

    Melissa

Mel, we have not discussed much about the lower end of the food spectrum: The Cleanup Crew. This link will discuss the diversity that makes up the sand bed. Chuck describes in detail how to set up and run a skimmerless system. Of special significance is the length of time to mature the sand bed before adding higher level predators, including coral.

That was a great article...thanks. I'm glad they mention Reef Cleaners...I'm getting in on the Group Buy that is going on now. I've placed a few hermits and snails from my biocube in there for now, but should have my full crew next week...

  5. I am setting up a 40g breeder with 40 lbs live rock (another 10 lbs in sump) and 40 lbs live sand. I do plan to add about 20 lbs more live rock to the DT soon. As far as livestock I plan on having mostly LPS coral and only two or three fish.

    All advice/opinions appreciated...

    Thanks,

    Melissa

  6. Did anyone ever get a group buy going to Reef Cleaners? If not, I'm really in need of a clean up crew and would be interested... Anyone else?

Is anyone planning on doing a group buy for reef cleaners? If not who all would be interested? I need to get a better clean up crew!

    Kenny
