    Refractometer

Selling my Marine Depot refractometer. Excellent working condition, includes a dropper and adjustment screw. Simple and extremely accurate way to monitor your salinity. Asking $25. http://www.marinedepot.com/Marine_Depot_Aquarium_Refractometer_Refractometers_for_Saltwater_Aquariums-Marine_Depot-MD2101-FITEOPRF-vi.html Regards, Jason
  3. I recommend using kalk at first, unless you want to drop the $$$$ on a CO2 based reactor. It's a fairly simple and complete supplement and can be done very low-tech (i.e. cheap) by just mixing it with your top off water and then toping off the tank regularly. (I prefer to just run my top off water through a kalk-reactor.) That's all you need unless you have very heavy coral population. If you can't keep uo with kalk then you can add some 2 part. I ran the kalk reactor plus 2 part for a year or so and got crazy growth, but that much calcium means frequent pump cleaning! The most complete, low maintenance fix is the CO2 system, but that's not risk free: if you don't have a high quality system with a good monitor it can overdose the tank and kill it very quickly.
  4. Adding a photo of the skimmer. Can also take Paypal if you need to use plastic. I'll let this run the rest of the week before I post it on RC (shipping is a PITA )
  5. Sale pending to CJWL.
  6. The only maintenance that I've done is cleaning it with diluted vinegar and water every 6 months or so. I've got the original box and everything that came in it. I'll have to check to see if there's a barb fitting for the intake in there. Regards, Jason
  7. Selling a top of the line H&S protein skimmer with Aquabee 1000 pump and air intake silencer. It is an extremely well made and efficient internal skimmer conservatively rated for tanks up to 75 gallons. Very compact with a 10" x 5 " x 20" high footprint. Asking $180. http://www.finsreef.com/xcart/product.php?productid=17522&cat=0&page=1 Thanks for looking! Jason
  8. These are the best internal return pumps on the market IMHO. Reliable, quiet, efficient, and low maintenance. It pumps about 500 gph at 4' of head pressure. Great for a return pump or a skimmer that requires a little muscle. This pump is 18 months old and runs like a clock. Asking $90. http://www.marinedepot.com/Eheim_1260_Pump_500_to_1000_Gallons_Per_Hour_Submersible_Water_Pumps-Eheim-EH1046-FIWPSBFT-EH1260-vi.html Thanks for looking! Jason
  9. Selling my Sunlight Supply Reef Optix 3 Plus Reflector with matching 250w Sunlight Galaxy Electronic ballast. Both are about a year and half old and run great. This is a top of the line set; excellent reflectivity and very efficient (for a metal halide set anyway.) I am also including a Phoenix 14K bulb in the sale, but it is over 9 months old and needs to be replaced soon. http://www.marinedepot.com/lighting_metal_halide_sunlight_reef_optix_plus_reflector-ap.html Yours for $140. Thanks for Looking! Jason
  10. 25 lbs of live rock for sale. Np aptasia, never been exposed to any medications, fully cured and still in a running tank. Nice shapes on these - I hand picked them out of about 150 pounds worth of rock to keep for a nano-tank. You'll get some blue legged hermit crabs and probably a peppermint shrimp or two along with the rock. Yours for $60. Regards, Jason
  11. The light set that you have should be good for a while if you're just starting up the tank IMHO. You should be able to grow softies / LPS / and SPS near the top of the tank. For a 24" deep tank the 250W MH are preferred but not necessary to have a nice aquarium, you just need to structure evrything according to its lighting needs in your tank. I'm not sure who told you that you need 3 x 250 MH for that tank but personally I think that 3 of them would be overkill. 2 x 250's (I like 14K myself) with good reflectors (I like the lumenarc 3s) plus maybe a few LEDs for moonlight would be more than adequate for anything in a tank that size IMPE.
  12. The tank has been sold. Thanks for looking!

    RBTA clone

Sold. Thanks for the interest. In answer to your question, both halves are about 5" across. This one has been a pretty good splitter for me over the years, this is about the 4th clone or so that has spawned on its own.
  14. Well, I've still got this so I'm dropping the price to $600. PM me or call me on my cell if you have questions. Regards, Jason 512-585-1959

    RBTA clone

My rose bubble tip just split last night and the clone is ready for a new home. I can meet at RCA in the evening or on the weekend. $50. You can call me on my cell at 585-1959. Jason
  16. You can clean the holey rock by gving it a dip in distilled white vinegar. That would disolve the outer layer of rock completely.
  17. I have two E-heim 1262 return pumps for sale. These pumps have a well deserved reputation as the best available submersible pumps on the market. They run great all the time, every time. I have never had a problem with an E-heim pump and these two are no exception. Both of the pumps are about 3 years old. Asking $100 each
  18. My general recommendations would be 1) wait until you are starting to get some significant film algae growth (3-5 days typically) 2) add some hermit crabs and feed 'em a small bit of pellet or raw food daily (small chunks of fresh shrimp are great) for a few more days 3) add some snails to help with the algae (make sure that you acclimate them very carefully)wait a week 4) after two weeks you should be ready to introduce a fish IMHO since you had some starter live rock to kick everything off What species are you planning on keeping in your tank? You would want to pick something that is relatively hearty and small but I wouldn't introduce anything that I wasn't planning on keeping.
  19. What Russel said except that I try to stick with a 3-5 times tank volume return regardless of whether or not there is a refugium just as a matter of personal preference. I find it easier to control noise and micro-bubbles with less flow through the drain. For the pump on my new 34 gallon tank I went with an E-heim 1250. It is within my target flow range at that head pressure and I have always been very happy with the E-heim pumps that I have owned in the past. Mag drive pumps would be another reasonable choice IMHO.
  20. I will vacuum stuff of the bottom sometimes - a bit of nuisance algae would be an excellent example. I definitely try to avoid disturbing the sand bed too much though. I certainly don't vaccum the bottom like I do in our fresh water tank.
  21. Dpo you have over flow boxes or are you just drilling a hole in the back for a drain? Is the tank glass or acrylic, if it's glass have you drilled glass before? How many GPH are you running through your return pump?
  22. Lol - what Jeff said. I'm about 1 mile from RCA, real close to Hunter's Chase and Ponds Springs intersection.
  23. Hmmm - I would go down to Aquatek and ask Bruce about that one. It seems like it would be kind of an odd arrangement but it might work.
