  1. You're welcome. If you find that Veron series for a reasonable price, please let me know. I am still very surprised it went out of print because it was the only book of its kind. My fingers are crossed that a new, updated version will be coming out soon.

  2. Corals of the World by Veron is by far the most comprehensive. But I believe it recently went out of print so the price has skyrocketed. It's possible a second edition is around the corner.

Borneman's Aquarium Corals is probably better for hobbyists as it has more care information. But for an 'encyclopedia' like you mentioned, then the Veron book can't be beat.

  3. We have a 29 Biocube going in this weekend and a 14 gallon will be set up next week. (Though we may delay setting up the 14 until after the break.)

I have a list of teachers I've met while working at Aquatek. These are public school teachers who have already been maintaining freshwater classroom aquariums. Most have in the past said something along the lines of "We'd love a saltwater aquarium, but they're just too expensive, too difficult... etc." and that's how this idea came about. If you know of any teachers who want to get on the list, please PM me their information and I'll put them on the list.

I should mention again that these are NOT just pretty decorations for classrooms, but are going into either Biology or Aquatic Sciences classrooms. The idea is to incorporate them whenever possible into the class's curriculum. I'm hoping to get an outline together which will mirror the TEKS sciences outline provided by the State, so that teachers will know which aspects of setting up, cycling, stocking and running a saltwater aquarium have teachable points.

Maybe there's an ARC memebr who's familiar with TEKS that could help with this?

  4. I'm selling my ADA tank that I ran as a reef for three and a half years. It is drilled on one end, with a very small overflow box on the inside.

It's meant to be set up as a peninsula, but could also be placed against a wall, with the overflow on either the left or the right.

    It is: 35.4in X 17.7in X 17.7in

Here is a link to the ADA page with all the details.

Here it is when it was set up. The overflow is centered on that right end.

Here it is now. You can see how small the overflow is. It does not go all the way to the bottom, so takes up less space. It's a smooth overflow (no teeth) with a recessed ledge that eggcrate rests on top of.

It is in excellent condition. There is only one scratch which I'm aware of, and it's on the upper edge of the front pane in the top picture. I tried photographing it today but it doesn't show up in my pictures.

Sorry, no stand, but it will fit on pretty much any 36" x 18" stand.

This is my own tank, this sale is unrelated to the store, and the tank needs to be picked up in central Austin. Please call or text 5One2-6Six5-Nine9Three1

    $200

  5. I just checked our list and found out there are three people in line waiting for them, and also, they've been hard to come by lately. Sorry about that. Give the Aquadome a call and see if they can find one for you. Or you can PM me your name and number and I'll call you when one becomes available.

  6. Hey Everyone-

I've started a little program called Fish in Schools (http://fishinschools.org) that's part of a non-profit association called MARATA (http://marata.org). You can view the Fish in Schools site (still under construction) for a summary of what we do, but the basic idea is to put low maintenance saltwater setups in classrooms. These aquariums will go into public schools and be free of charge. We're just getting started and have some Austin teachers lined up who are ready and waiting.

What we're looking for now are donations of used equipment to get us started. We really need some of the smaller all-in-one aquariums, like Biocubes or Nanocubes. If anyone has one they'd like to donate, please let me know. (It doesn't even need to be fully functioning, as long as the aquarium part is in good shape, we could probably get it up and running with spare parts.) We'll also be looking for other donations as the program progresses: live rock, easy corals, small-tank appropriate fish etc.

Please just reply to this post if you have anything. If anonymity is more your style, you can email me at: craig {at} marata.org.

Cash donations made from our http://fishinschools.org are also, of course, greatly welcomed. Anything at all will help!

Suggestions and ideas are welcome as well.

    Thanks!
