Sweet. I'll check out RCA and AD.

Where can I buy dry rock by the pound here in Austin?
-
I just want to fill things up. I want to get dry rock to do it. I just don't know if I have to cure it first.
Ty: All the live stock is good. I just want to add some more rock to help with biological filtration and add hiding places. I may just get a few rocks at a time since they can be expensive.
-
Sweet. I definitely have time and a big bucket to spare. I can get some rock and cure it no problem. Thanks.

I setup my tank in April. I would like to add more rock to the system. I have had not so great luck with adding rock in the past, i.e. it caused my tank to re-cycle and caused some losses.
Does anyone have any recommendations for adding more rock to my tank?

Very nice!

I do have a 375. How big is the clown tang? Is he eating?
-
That sounds like a great idea for checking accuracy. I'll do that. Much better than asking to borrow someone else's TDS meter and hooking it up. Haha.
-
It's possible. I can contact BRS and see what they think.
Is it possible you just got a bad membrane?
-
I let it run for a few minutes. I had been using it for about two months now.
I took my filters and everything out and reassembled them. I get the same TDS readings. I am starting to wonder if my TDS meter might just be going bad or if having the unit in the heat of the garage is messing with it.
Anyone an expert on the mechanics of these things? I would appreciate a second pair of eyes look of it to make sure that I put it together correctly.
-
Hmm, I'll pull it apart this afternoon and put the filters back in. Maybe on is crooked.
-
I guess nothing is wrong really. I checked my in water and it is at 145ppm and then after the membrane it is 34ppm, then after the DI it is 0ppm.

Mine was all brown after a month.
Derek, does your resin look like this? I just realized maybe I was looking at it incorrectly. so mine is very light at the bottom. The middle 80% is a dark tan color and the top 20% is still blue. As it gets used up does it go from blue to tan to almost white and at that point it's used up? I checked the water coming out of the membrane and it was 4 TDS.
-
Yeah, I thought it was high. I'm trying to take my In probe off the DI unit to put it on the main line in to get a read on that. I checked the membrane and it is plugged insecurely.
-
I'll check it out. It was something like 34 going into the DI unit and 0 out. I'll check the RO membrane and make sure it's popped in all the way. I haven't taken any flow restrictors out.
-
I recently got some of the color changing DI media from BRS. I've made probably 150 gallons of water with it and it seems to be spent already. This was about a month worth of use. Prior to this my DI media would last about six to eight months. I am not really making anymore water than usual.
I changed my 3 stage filters as well as RO membrane (150 GPH) at the beginning of June, the same time I changed the DI media, so I do not think that it is a problem with the filters.
What could cause such a which consumption of the media? I think I went from a 75 GPH membrane to a 150 GPH membrane. I had under purchased the last time I bought a membrane so I just replaced the 75 GPH one with the proper size.

I did all my plumbing on my new tank using PVC instead of flex hose. I love it. It is so much better than the flex hose I used on my last tank.

A hoeven's wrasse was my savior when I had an outbreak of flatworms. They were literally covering my frog spawn colony. Within two or three weeks after putting in the hoeven's wrasse they were all gone. Now the hoeven's is a beloved friend in my tank.

As long as it isn't detaching from the rock it is on you're fine. I have a few toadstools and they often will retract for a week or so at a time. I had one just recently (about a month ago) that was retracted for 10ish days.

Thanks so much. The glove is awesome and helped me take care of this without being freaked out.
I have an aquaglove that should cover you up to your shoulder if you need it. About to leave but can put it out by the front door if you want to grab it.

Thanks everyone. I really appreciate it. All my remaining fish seem to be doing alright. I think the worst of it is behind me.
Lesson learned...
Medusa worms, while cool, have a bad side effect that is one that can happen to anyone even if precautions are taken.

Does anyone know if these things are poisonous to people? I'm really ambivalent to stick my hands in there to get the deads out and my grabber is not really doing the trick.

I'm not able to catch the survivors. I'm not sure if it would really help though. The toxin is already in their bodies.
I'm sorry man that sure does suck. Are you able to catch the survivors to put them in toxin free water?
