lildodoo
Just wanted to see if anyone has had any experience with these reflectors from hellolights. http://www.hellolights.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=1663 Thanks
muddybluewater
They will work but you don't get the coverage you would out of a Luminarc. To get good coverage you might consider 3 over a 90g. With Luminarc minis you would only need 2.
caferacermike
They do an awesome job and concentrate the light very well. I've used them to build several light fixtures. I have one really big gripe about Lumnearcs, they spread the light. Some would say "hey that's a great thing". To me it's all about PAR and intensity. I would rather pack more light over a dense area than to spread it to thin. Think about it like a rancher with cattle. You could deliver their food directly to a feed trough and feed them a little heavier than necessary watching them get nice and fat or you could cut the amount of feed in half and spread it on the ground using a spreader so that every cow gets a little. I think any rancher would prefer fatter cattle even if it meant concentrating their food a little more. Fatter cattle equal more money. If I had my choice on a 200g tank to choose either 5 250w DE in those reflectors or 3 250w bulbs in 3 Lumenarcs, I'd pass on the Lumenarcs and go for the more intense 5 bulb set up. I've been considering rebuilding my fixture for my 75g tank now that things are going better again. Some would say just use 2 Lumenarcs with 250w bulbs, however I am seriously considering using 3 of the Hellolights reflectors with 3 250w 14K's and 4 54w T5 actinics. muddybluewater
That is a good point Mike. Would it not be better to go with 2 400w instead of 3 250w though? I would like to see the difference in par ratings at different water levels between the 400s and 250s and for that matter 250s in Hello reflectors vs Luminarcs. lildodoo
Thanks for the advice.......my only concern with the lumemarc is that my canopy is only 8-9 inches tall, so mounting it on the inside might be tight.
