Derry
Ok, I know this is an odd request, but I thought it was worth a try. I have two onyx clowns that I bought at River City last March. They STILL have no idea what that rather large green BTA is for. I've tried taping pictures to the tank. I've tried shining a flashlight on the anemone at night. I've even pulled up videos of clownfish on the laptop and set it in front of the tank. Mine just won't go into the 'nem. So here's the deal - if you have two onyx clowns that are creating problems in your tank because of their hosting behavior (smothering a small anemone, messing with frogspawn, etc.), I'd like to trade you mine straight up. +dapettit
Unfortunately their is no guarantee that any clownfish will host in a anemone. I have three pairs of clowns and they all host in frogspawn completely ignoring the RBTA. Just my experience. . . Dave-

I had two clowns that did the same. In fact the anemone was so big they had to swim around it. Then after about 4 months, the male decided to host it out of the blue. Then the female followed in about 2 weeks time. She was preferring to sleep on an orange mushroom. Now they both host the anemone. You just gotta be patient, they'll figure it out in time. I say hold on to them for a little longer and if they don't host within a year, then try and trade 'em out.
Derry
Yeah, that year mark gets here in about six weeks. Someone suggested that I pick up a "trainer" for them - a clown that knows how to host and will show them how. I think that's my next step. chrisfowler99
I have two Occalaris clowns. One hosted in a GBTA so violently it loved it to death. The other hosted a red cap montipora. I put in a carpet anemone...The one that was hosting the GBTA is now hosting a frogspawn (and sometimes "cheating" with the torch/hammer). The other was still hosting the red cap montipora. Removed the carpet (it's how hosting some clowns for refeerRob). I'd like to pick up another BTA at some point, but it's going to have to be large enough to handle the "love" of a very affectionate clown. Dunno if the other will be smart enough to ever host something reasonable.
+dapettit
We have a mated pair of Occalaris clowns that host in the frogspawn. They completely ignore the RBTA. They don't wvne swim on that side od the tank! We picked up a white strip maroon for the same tank. The maroon took right to the RBTA and we were so happy. The next day the female Occalaris was playing in the RBTA and the male is cowering in the frogspawn. The maoon is no where to be found. The female swims back in forth between the two kicking the maroon out of the nem and sending him/her into hiding (rather small). Go Figure. . .
