+KeeperOfTheZoo
Hey Y'all, I'm in the process of ordering a Vertex IN 180 but (why is it there always seems to be a 'but' in this hobby) I'm afraid my sump depth is too deep. It's right at a consistent 11" with the way my baffles are. I can't raise the skimmer very much because it'll hit the underside of my tank/stand. So, I'm kinda at a loss. Other skimmers of the size that can handle my tank (125g) and in my price range are all about the same height. I guess I could try to cut down my baffles somehow, but not sure I can do it with the sump installed and trying to drain and remove the sump will be such a pain! Not impossible, but I really don't relish the thought. I've read a couple posts on other forums where people are running this skimmer in deeper water with good results. One poster said 12"! Wow! I can raise the skimmer up maybe an inch or two, which would have it running in 9-10" of water. Anyone else running this skimmer in deeper water that when it calls for (6-8")? I'd REALLY like to be able to use it. Pump issues aside, it looks like a totally awesome skimmer for the money. Thanks! Liz
muddybluewater
From what I have read 8-10" should be good for the skimmer. I cut some pvc pipe to make feet to raise my skimmer 1". You can attach them with super glue or silicone would hold them enough.
GKarshens
I have the IN 250. It is in 9" of water. I had a hard time getting it dialed in. I noticed it seems to work better in shallower water for me. I used egg crate to raise it.
