chrisfowler99
The propeller keeps binding and spins the wet side off. Apparently it's a bearing issue and they're sending out free replacements. I've got an email out to them. Had to drop in a Korelia 3 to hold over until I get it fixed. Looking at the Korelia, I realize why I like the MP40W so much.
Zarathustra2
Man... but the cost on the MP40... I love the look but just get priced right out of the market for them comparing the GPH/Price ratio to any other brand.
chrisfowler99
I got mine at the RCA birthday sale, so a pretty good discount. But even then the price is up there...but it's so nice!
+mcallahan
its all marketing!
caferacermike
I've said it all along about them falling off and sending sand everywhere. FYI this is not a "new" issue. I heard about this over 4 years ago with Vortech.
Zarathustra2
Good to know before I dropped that kind of cash on them.
fishypets
I was the first one in Austin to own a Vortech when they first came out years back. After two months of vibrations, propeller issues, heat, noise, etc,etc I got a full refund and bought another Tunze. Never had one problem with Tunze except when I spilled water on one of the controllers.
caferacermike
Hah! I've been waiting to see Fishypets state that for years. It was his Vortech that I've always been referring to.
JimD
Ive had my MP40W running for going on four months now with zereo problems. I spoke with Steve at Eco tech support about the issues that some seem to be having, his response was that there was a batch of bearings that made it into some pumps that were inferior cusing the units to fail. I suggest that if you feel youre having problems, call him and supply the units serial number so he can help resolve any issues. I woulnt trade my MP40 for all the Tunzes in the world! Donald
I received the same acknowledgement by Stephen. My replacement parts should be here on Monday. In the meantime, I found a good deal on a replacement wet side, and it is running great now.

chrisfowler99
replacement bearing arrived yesterday and it's back up and running fine today. We'll see if it lasts. I certainly hope so.

+Daniel
just saw this: http://www.reefbuilders.com/2009/09/11/vortech-caught-thermal-camera/ Those picture are neat, since we're all little nerds, but a little misleading since the thermal camera cannot read through the glass or the water. The temperature at the side of the glass (at the location of the crosshairs) is ~87 degress, you can be sure that at least some of that is getting through. EDIT: Just read the caption, looks like they're well aware of that. Chris, did you get a replacement?
chrisfowler99
Yup...two posts above yours.
mikedelgado
One of my wetsides recently locked up.I have had a power supply failure and I have had a wireless controller just croak. I have used tunze streams in the past and I will say that they were absolutely more reliable and seem to be more powerfull. But all and all I just like the vortecs better. If thier customer service wasnt so good I would definately go back with the tunzes
