Zarathustra2
So, I am looking on-line at several types of halogen worklights where i can get a 1000watt light fo 1/4 the price of a 150W metal halide. So, I'm wondering why Halogens are not used in general aquaria. Seems like a good cheap solution unless it is just a flat white light with no blues in it or something? Zarathustra2
wrong spectrums, not uv shielded Thanks captain obvious. I got a chance to look this up when i got home and found some interesting articles from the early 90's where people used them for algae growing, where the predominately red light output is just fine. It turns out that even for that purpose the electricity outstrips the cheap costs of ballasts/bulbs really quickly. EG a 500 watt Halogen has as much light output as a 150 watt Metal Halide. Too bad. My dreams of a cheap grow-out setup are dashed again.
caferacermike
I can help you out with 2 halide ballasts cheap. Brand new I'd let them both go for $60, 250W. No mogul sockets or reflectors, raw ballasts only.
