+Bmwaaron
Does anyone know the difference between a acanthastrea echinata and a Acanthastrea Lord? And is one more desirable then the other?
fishypets
The lord at one point was the "holy grail" of lps. I remember seeing them sell for one hundred bucks a head at one point.
caferacermike
I have about 12 heads of Lord. I'd much prefer a nice 4" piece of echinata.
thedude
Lords generally are much fleshier in appearance and have large single polyp mouths.
Kingfish
A. echinata have the ability to have fused coralites at the fringes of the coral polyps where A. lord coralites do not fuse, but spread as individual polyps. Their flesh makes both appear similar similar, but echinata is more colonial.
GMFett
Nice kingfish. In response to the echinata preference: i think it completely depends on the specific species. I have some lords that are very vibrant in color as well as echinatas. It simply depends on a case to case basis. Both very cool corals. Prior to being able to collect the lord in japanese waters they were quite expensive and the rare/exciting colors still go for quite a bit.
