Jbrougher
whats a good way to change the water in my 55gal tank?
Robb in Austin
Here is my method: I brew up my new SW in a Rubbermaid tub right next to the tank. Siphon sand/old water/macro algae that I can get to down the tub. For adding new SW, I attach a length of tubing to my mixing pump(Maxijet 400), point into tank, plug in. Whole process takes about 20 min. Edited February 3, 2009 by Robb in Austin
JBoy251
I mix my water in a bucket then I turn the return off, take 10 - 12% water out of the sump replace it with the new water and turn the return back on.

GKarshens
Just a note: It is recommended that you let new saltwater mix for 24 hours before using. This insures that all the salt is dissolved and you get the proper salinity. It also helps bring up the ph of the new water as it is often low when first mixed. I use a Brute with a Maxi-jet powerhead in it to mix the salt. Then I have a hose that fits on the Maxi-jet to suck the water out of the tank and then pump the new water in. Makes it much easier than trying to siphon.
