If you can buy in bulk it's a pretty good bet to get the 200 gallon box of Instant Ocean on Amazon, typically $39.99 with free shipping. Sascha D. Posted December 15, 2016 Share Posted December 15, 2016 The 200 gallon box makes 200 gallons of saltwater at 1.023 or 160 gallons at 1.025. If you have a 40 gallon sump, filled up 30 gallons, then you'll need about 123 gallons of saltwater on day 1. If you do a water change at 10% every 2-4 weeks, then you'll have enough salt for 4-8 water changes. It sounds like a lot, but it goes fast.
