NewtoReef
Im planning on trying to wrestle some acrylic into a hob overflow sometime after the holidays and wondered if anyone had plans that they have used succesfully that they could recomend. I have all the neccesary tools in my fathers shop so all I need to do is get some experience and guidance and see what i can turn out. I found this site and reviewed it a little http://www.podzilla.us/aquascapeDS/overflow/overflow2.html let me know what you think. TIA. Gabe. Headless_donkey
First, building your own overflow is fun. I built one and it worked great and was exactly the size I wanted. I do have to recommend building a J-tube style box. They are MUCH more reliable then do not require a second pump. You can buy J-tubes at Amazonia for a couple of dollars and cut it to length. NewtoReef
Cool, I will look into the J-tube style design, sounds efficient.
sharkbait33
could you give, if you remember, a rough estimate as to how much this project cost you?
Headless_donkey
Not that much. J-tube $4 acrylic $10(maybe) Glue $5 Regal Plastic has a $25(if memory serves) minimum. If you come with cash on Friday they will look the other way. You can easily get enough material for an overflow in their scrap pile.
