madsalt
I have decided to jump up tp a 180 gallon tank but want to build the stand for it. The tank is 5 feet long and 2 feet deep and 29 inches high.. Has any built one with these dimensions before and if so do you have any tips, plans etc. I have a solid plan for it but it never hurts to get additional input. +Capt. Obvious
Their are calculators online that design the frame for you...most stand frames are all the same basic design
madsalt
I was looking at a few different designs and I saw the use of 4x4's as the 4 legs if you will. I noticed some had them notched for the 4x2's and some set the 4x2's inside them and then put a plybase on it. I would imagine that I would not want to notch anything that is there for the overall support of the tank. On a five foot span, do I need to have a center brace? I was thinking it wouldn't be a problem considering I am going to put side doors for access should I need to remove my sump or anything.
