Gumbo28
Can someone please help me by telling me what this little anemone is? It showed up after I bought some live rock locally. It does not look like Aiptasia to me, at least not the normal kind I usually see. My knowledge is obviously limited but this is the only one in the tank and if I need to get it out I still can. I doubt it is anything I should allow to remain but I thought I would ask. Thanks in advance for any help. +o0zarkawater
Looks like a majano to me. http://www.google.com/search?q=majano+anemone&hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=0kj&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&prmd=ivns&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=BrrpTY7aK4WUtweEpcHCAQ&ved=0CB0QsAQ&biw=1280&bih=863 Its the other pest anemone, the harder of the two to get rid of. Hopefully someone else will have some input on how to rid yourself of them.
don duncan
Kalk paste works best. Also removing the rock and cutting the piece of rock where it is attached works well
Gumbo28
thanks guys........I knew it was not a good thing to have, I just did not know what it was. From what I have learned, anything that comes free or pops up on the rock is normally a negative.
NonSequitur
+1 to the kalk paste. The commercial products (aiptasia-x, joe's juice, etc) work as well, but a heaping tbsp of kalk powder mixed with just enough water to make it flow through a syringe is cheap and effective, just turn off your pumps, let the water become still, and squirt the kalk onto the anemone, being careful to minimize collateral damage.
