Teresa
Hey - can you give me the dimensions on the 5g? Is the 5g glass or acrylic? Also, I might need some advice on buffering out a scratch on glass. I've got one on the front of my 29 cube and if no one takes the cardiff I'm gonna switch out and sell the cube - I'll want to buff out the scratch. If you can catch your fingernail in the scratch don't bother. If you can't feel it, get some cerium oxide and mix it with water until it's a paste and buff it out with a buffing wheel on your drill (or car polisher) http://www.fitchfamily.com/glass.html
mhart032
The fingernail comment it just very untrue. I've buffed out deep scratches in 1/2 glass. With jewlers compound and a buffer.
Mindflux
The fingernail comment it just very untrue. I've buffed out deep scratches in 1/2 glass. With jewlers compound and a buffer. Everything I've read contradicts this for aquariums. Thinning the glass wall in 'random' spots can compromise the glass. (Or so it's been said). Believe me I wish it weren't true because I'd love to buff out the scratches on the Solana.
mhart032
The 5g is glass, and the dimensions are 8 1/2 x 16"
mhart032
well then my advice to you, is to maybe read less and take what people say for granted and truths and experience it for yourself, im sure i can find somewhere online that the empire state building is only 5 stories but doesn't make it true. and my buddy at binswanger glass would tell you it can be done w/o compromising the glass. now if were done hijacking my thread. thanks. Of course it doesn't make it true (Empire state building) because everyone (I/you/everyone) knows better. The fact that neither of us are qualified glass workers should mean to take each of our advise with a grain of salt. I'm just reiterating what I've read in several places (not just one) from several people. I'm not taking ONE person's suggestion/recommendation to heart, I'm taking _SEVERAL_. Not HiJacking, trying to have a discussion on glass polishing.
mhart032
Well I hVe done it, so I guess I defied all the odds. I'm like chris angel I guess. And my for sale thread is not a "glass polishing" thread. So thanks Matt
