Wadeifer
I just acquired a new 75 gallon aquarium with a 1" drain and two 3/4" returns. I need help selecting a quite and reliable external return pump and am debating between the following three. Mag-Drive 9.5 Eheim 1262 Little Giant 3-MDQX-SC My system will have about 5 feet of head pressure. Also, does anyone have any feedback on the SCWD Wavemaker? Thank you for you help. mdavis735
I don't know much about the little giants, but have had great luck with eheim. I've never used one externally, but they work great and are quiet with internal use.
versace
My 90G runing whit Mag-Drive 9.5 (+ 1"Check Valves + 1" SCWD ) this is good to me I think 900gph pump is good to 75G
+Hydro
Mag 9.5 is large for that tank, you can always throttle it back with an inline valve. I had a 9.5 on a 175 gallon and it would overflow the tank. My suggestion is to go with an iwaki pump, really energy efficeint and quiet. They are designed for external use only. Marine Depot has them
JasonJones
I would suggest the ehiem as well, but the 1260 instead. At 6ft of head height, it looks to put out 350gph or so (hard to tell from the chart I looked at). This would be more than plenty for that size tank and give you nice slower movement through the sump (less microbubbles, less noise, and a convenient place for detritus to settle where it can be easily removed. Mike M.
One more...the most quiet external pump out there is a Poseidon T1 or T2. SILENT! I'm running one and it is whisper quiet compared to other externals I have "heard".
