Removing elastic band from colt coral

I received a frag from a fellow reefer and it had not encrusted on a rock yet. I secured the colt to the rock with an elastic band 8 days ago. Tonight I tried to remove the elastic band. But, the elastic band had grown into the colt. I noticed this too late. As I tried to cut and remove the elastic band I ripped off the colt from the rock. So I reattached the colt back to the rock with the elastic band grown into it.

My question is..... Should I leave the elastic band on permanently? How do I remove the elastic band without harming the colt? The colt has obviously shrunk now as I have really stressed it out.

Im sure there are plenty of elastic bands in the ocean right?

So..... What would you recommend I do? Remove the band? Leave it? Sorry if this is a dumb question. I'm new to all this.

I'm sure someone will chime in who has used them but I usually just wedge softies deep in a crack. As long as some part of it see's daylight it will attach and grow out. Try this on for size.

You can remove it, it will heal. That's how many people frag softies
