Tallspawn
I'm about to order some replacement bulbs and have never used the 454nm before. Any experience with the 454 PC bulbs? Should I do both 454 or mix one with a 420? Just looking for opinions from people who have tried them both. Thanks!!
diabeetus
i ordered the 420 and didnt like it at all. i then proceeded the order the 450nm because they are more blue. the 420 were a very light pink.
pbnj
I vaguely remember reading that the 420's are better for the photosynthesis process zooxanthellae use to produce their food, but I can't confirm that.
Derekreefer
I just returned a UV Super Actinic T5 420nm because they look really dim to me. It also had a light pink/purple color. The 420nm I guess is just to faint for the human eye to see. I have also heard that it is great for zooxanthellae growth though so if I had more than a 4 bulb fixture I would have included one. I just got the new ATI purple plus T5 in today. I'll let you know what I think after I install it.

From what I have found online, the 454 looks really similiar (on the charts at least) to the purple plus you listed. I might try mixing them... Derekreefer
Man, the purple plus kinda overpowers the blueplus and makes the tank look pink/purple/reddish. The Corals absolutely pop wth color but the liverock looks pink/reddish. I think I am going to go with the two blueplus's instead.
