Is acrylic stronger than glass????

I want to buy a 220g tank. It has a 1/2 " glass center brace but the tank is 1/4" acrylic. I would like to know is this normal or what? Why would it's have a center brace if it was not meant to hold water?

i wouldnt buy an acrylic tank, they scratch to easy. Just another thing to make it a pain in the azzzzzzz.

Wait what? 1/4" thick" Are you positive about this? It won't hold. Generally you'll see 1/2" but closer to 3/4". My 125g sump was made out of 3/16th's acrylic but it is super braced do to all my sump chambers. The guy building it didn't even want to build it with the 3/16" until he realized it's just a bunch of 20g chambers. I've seen 3/8" used on 55g acrylic tanks. My 400g is 3/4".

That is not normal. As Mike said, 1/4" is way to thin.

It should be 1/2" thick at a minimum and that is really pushing it on a 220. Unless the tank is 12+ feet long....

And it should not have a mix of glass and acrylic. Glass and acrylic are very difficult to bond together.

Be wary of that tank.

+1 prof. Glass and acrylic don't bond together. And if its 1/4" it must be a turtle tank or something, because that would bust instantly with 220 gal in it.

Thanks gentleman! I knew something wasn't right. 1/4" seemed to thin to me also.
