  1. I want to build a 90 gal, but dont know where to start

  2. I have had my Yellow Watchman Goby and Tiger Pistol Shrimp for almost a year now. They are great fun to watch. Don't be shy about busting down those kids' sand castles. They also get excited about rebuilding after a "natural" disaster. hehe. Although, if i had a chance i would not get them. They have totally reworked all of my rock work (not glued/bonded together). Everything is a bit different now, and a large number of feather dusters are toast (since the substrate has been piled over them to long). Also they keep burying my ricordeas. Silly little buggers. Its all good fun though, and would recommend them to someone who expected to have them from the beginning (ex: prep work). *pic is a mad YWG* oh and a pile of bubble algae, yay!
  3. Although I can't say for sure, this is my situation. I have a biocube 29. It has the stock lightning, which (excuse my forgetting the wattage) includes a 50/50 + Actinic. I dosed 5ml of CA and ALK everyday. Each day i would test to find 7dkh, and 360 ca. The more i dosed, the more grew. Today i have updated the lighting just a hair, to full 10k + actinic. Still PC lighting though. I still dose about 5ml, but now it is once a week. My coraline growth and existing coraline has died off. Its still crazy purple, but now my red coraline is cracked out. Growing like mold in a coffee cup. My plan now is to keep ontop of the dosing (since i've been slacking) and verify whether the purple stuff comes back. Then ill know what kind of effect the lighting had. Problem with all of this is that I have only had my biocube for a year now.... so this could all be the result of a maturing tank. On a side note, i used one single flake of purple coraline, crunched it up in a morter and poured in my baby Fluval Edge tank. Since (and weekly 2 part dosings) the coraline has exploded in there. It has gone from a baren wasteland to full blown purple spotted crazy looking tank in less than 3 weeks. To me... the only pattern i can see between my tanks and friends' tanks... is care. I work on my tanks every single day. I test everyday for EVERYTHING i can (reliable ones that is). I stir the substrate, i scrape coraline, i magfloat the crap off the glass... Dose when i remember, and phyto when i can. So far, over 2 tanks and over a year now... everything seems to be working. So before i jynx myself to much... that is all. G'day! *small tank with the yellow fella* *big tank with the starfish*
  4. Mine are still going strong! Man these things are sweet.
  5. Got mine home and it seems to be doing well so far. Open and happy!
  6. If you have a frag, we would love to make this a second addition to our tank! We live in round rock btw...

Thanks everyone! Thanks for the info. I really hadn't thought of jawfish... but a very good point. We will be getting a watchman/pistol combo, so since they are kinda the same, do you think i will have a problem with that?
  8. Wow.. thanks guys! With 3 options here, i should be able to find it. Thanks again!
  9. Afternoon everyone! I was wondering if anyone had a clump of soon to be discarded Chaeto? I have a Biocube 29 that needs a golf ball size wad of cheato... But i can't seem to find it available for purchase anywhere. I read alot of folks just throwing some away each week as it grows, so i was wondering if someone could throw some in some water and hold it for me? I know its crappy to ask for a freebie, but if your just throwing it away? Thanks!

Thanks everyone! We really got lucky with this LR. It came out of a very mature tank, that got broken down. It does appear to have some possible Aiptasia but we are letting it grow just a bit to verify, its just a bit to small for us to get a good look at. I know everyone (everywhere else that is) says Crushed Coral is bad... but to be honest with you guys, we didn't even read about substrates. We just assumed it was all good, no matter what you went with. We figured since the fellas over at RiverCity had it on the floor, it was good to go. So im going to do my best to deal with that decision... and keep it clean as i can.

Afternoon everyone! I am new to austin, and i am also new to salt water tanks. I currently have a Biocube 29, stocked up with about 30 lbs of mature LR. We have just introduced our first shrimp, a fire shrimp named Chili. :-) My wife and I are really excited about working on our own little "reef"! We have spent hours and hours researching everything we can, before we started, so hopefully casualties will be limited... Here's a photo of our tank.
