Derek - we actually mean Prof the member, as in that's his name. He can build you an acrylic tank so he's got all the supplies

I bought a tomato clown today and dropped him into a tank with two 3-stripe damsels and a coral beauty angel. The coral beauty I know can be a bossy son-of-a and right upon dropping in the clown he started pushing him around. No nipping, just chasing, but will they eventually be alright? I'm watching them close now and it seems to have calmed down. The beauty has a 2:1 size advantage so I didn't think it would be an issue.
also, just dropped in some green star polyps - whats a normal time for them to open up?
and finally, whats the best way to mount a red monti cap - the side of rock or the top (and its sitting under a MH - so I assume height shouldn't matter in the tank?)
thanks guys

i looked at a couple other sites after you first mentioned it and i think that yes you could get some out of it anemone spawning - Reef Aquarium Society of Charlotte

from what i've read most of the long skinny starfish are reef safe and its mostly the real meaty ones that eat everything. someone should back me up on that though

looks like i'm buying fish again

I go in there for my RO and have always been helped by guys or a younger girl who is not the owner. Sorry I can not provide updates on the owner.
However, I stop by once a week for water, and had I just happened to come in and seen that I probably would not have gone back. I am a red-blooded 22 year old guy but I'm just trying to get some fish water. Maybe they would have better sales if their SW selection consisted of more than 8 10-gallon tanks with only percula clowns.

thats just not a good way to look at buying a fish, you should be looking at the short term as well as the long term. that would be like your parents saying "well hes a lil big for the crib now, lets see if the neighbors wanna buy him"
not seeing your logic here babies are great for picking up chicks, old babies are expensive... makes sense to get rid of it

question about my lighting :
i picked up a t5 set yesterday from the selling section but I have no experience wiring these together or playing with them and am having some trouble with just one of the bulbs. I'm assuming its dead but there maybe something with t5's I don't know. Just for testing purposes I just set up one connection instead of putting them in parallel, one bulb works and lights up from the start, the other one, in the exact same setup doesn't turn on. Does this mean its dead - or s there anything I can do for it?
-
i can also accept and am pretty central 38th and red river (though if someone could do distribution since my parents are coming into town -- i need to entertain)

i didn't look around much, i just googled buy online tempered glass and found it (originally) it worked out well, and cost 1/4 of what a local shop quoted me.

I'm thinking I am just going to get a retro fit kit for t5 but I figure I would check to see if anyone has some lying around. Need bulbs as well.
48" .... and if you have them in a basic fixture that I could fit into the canopy and/or take apart I would be down with that s well

pm sent - for 1 of the koralia 4's and the refractometer
-
nvm, measured a set.
built the main part of the hood today, gonna finish the rest this weekend hopefully.
-
gonna sound dumb but for my tank, which is 48 " long I do want 48" bulbs right? should i build that extra length into the canopy? it looks like the ones posted the lights and their fittings fit without any extra space?
-
Bill convinced me yesterday to do an ATO stat so i will be.
-
how do you set the canopy on the top of the frame? do you just sit the base flush with the top, and then use the finishing wood that drops over the outside down to water level to brace it?
-
Howdy.
I was thinking about adding some mangroves to my DT. I know they grow pretty tall, so I would have to prune them to keep them well below the water level. Do they prune well? Or will it end up looking like I have sticks sticking out of my sand bed?
mangroves grow above and below i thought - i don't think you can keep them below water level.
-
i thought you weren't supposed to get SW from anywhere close to shore.... thats what i read somewhere. its full of crap.
-
do you have any glass between your lights and the tank? i thought MH's needed something there
