  1. Hi y'all!

I'm a former reef addict and member of ARC who had a 90g mixed reef tank, but had to get out of the hobby 5 years ago.

Anyways, life is opening up again and I'm itching to get back in the reef hobby, but in a more scaled down version. I would like to try a bio / nano cube sized AIO and keep zoas, shrooms, anemone, pair of clowns and some blennies, and maybe an acan and/or clam. I look forward to re-learning from y'all and getting back in to the hobby.

  2. All, I'm deferring to Ty in regard to collecting funds etc. TY Ty!

Ty, btw, i'll assume you don't need me to maintain a list of peeps in the OP. If you do, lmk.

  3. Awesome guys! I'm hijacking the first post and keeping a list of those who wish to contribute to the gift. Please continue to reply to this thread if you are interested in contributing.

I believe Tim is Vietnamese (please correct me if i'm wrong). Anyone know what would be considered a traditional Vietnamese condolence gift? A quick Google search says no gift, but a card, meals, and the like. Another suggestion was a charitable donation. Please advise if someone knows better.

  4. Would anyone be interested in chipping in for something for his family? Tim obviously was part of our ARC family, and I think it would be nice for us, eg ARC, to send our group condolences to his family.

  5. Yeah, my lawnmower blenny started climbing into my mp40s when i have them shut down for maintenance or feeding thumbsdown.gif So rather than risk it, i never power them down entirely and set it to 1% power for those times. Of course he's screwed when my power goes out and everything turns back on. Darwin!

  6. Currently @ AMD. James and I work on the same floor / side of the bldg. I'm part of the CAD team supporting the designers with AMD's processor designs. I specialize in static timing analysis (verify a chip is running to spec, eg 1 GHz) and thermal analysis (verify the current flow (= heat) through localized parts of the chip do not change device characteristcs and or long term reliability of the part).

However, I'm at the cusp of a career change and was accepted to UT's Alternate Entry MS Nursing program, but have deferred my start til Summer 2014. I hope to work in the ER and/or ICU, where I currently volunteer at both @ Brackenridge.

Btw, other interests include sailing/windsurfing (i used to be a collegiate sailor), salsa dancing (teach, promote, run events), and brazilian jiu jitsu (just a blue belt).

  7. questions for the MODs. like to help a friend to sell off some equipments, hes not a premium member. i make a sale post w/ a list of sale and his contact infos, is it against a club's rules?

    please lmk w/ any thoughts....

    thank you.

Unfortunately, yes that would be against the rules.

  8. @brian, i get a chalky white residue (vs "film"), and i was previously running continuously an MJ1200.

@victoly, i've been pretty lax about water changes, so maybe 20 to 25g once per month. i understand your statement about things coming out of solution if it's not continously agitated, and am willing to "loose" some in trade for less power consumption. i will assume what will come out of solution is more of this chalky residue noted. as far as the salt water being caustic to the pump, the pump itself is not submerged so i would think only the impeller and internal "chamber" would be at risk, with the impeller considered a wearable item anyways.

  9. Resurrecting this old thread... i finally setup my salt mixing station w/ 55g barrels, and prefer not running the pump for the salt water storage 24/7. is it ok to run it 4x a day for say 15min each?

    I'm using a Mag5.

  10. But will they price match shipping too? MD was hitting me up for shipping AND an extra fee per 1gal of Tech M. The Amazon vendor was just a straight $5.99 to ship (MD's shipping was higher than this as well as their price per item).

  11. @ Dave & Roland, since we aren't anywhere near the $175 free shipping threshold, i've been doing some comparison shopping for Tech M (both Roland and I ordering, and this is primarily what I needed), and one of the Amazon vendors is significantly cheaper.

Dave, could I reneg on ordering the pH probe for you? Don is doing a BRS order where he's already hit free shipping, and they do have the pinpoint probe.

Roland, likewise for the forceps only?

    Both please confirm.

  12. I'm looking to submit an order to MD. I'm currently @ $85, and free shipping is @ $175. I'm aiming to pull the trigger first thing next MON 3/5 in hopes for an end of the week delivery. Lmk if you are interested in making a mini group buy.
