can't keep anything alive in it, I was out of town for several months and I don't have the patiences to start over, so I am thinking about selling it. I have the 22 gallon bow front, which I think is called Reef ready (it has the thingy in the back) and it comes with a stand and a light which I've used for all intensive purposes for about a month. The light is not a T5 or anything special like that, but it does have a 50/50 bulb, I think it is either 45 or 60 watts, and I was able to keep softies and GSP under it (they look beautiful under it by the way). It also has 2 inches of sand and some rock (which I can only assume is no longer live rock). It's a pretty set-up. I will sell it all for $180, cash. Please let me know if you are interested. Went out for coffee with my friend, When I got home I saw three dead fish and the the other twwo almost dead, I had removed the coral beauty earlier, and removed the two almost dying ones, they are good now in the other tank except they are clowns and not getting along well with the other clowns. I took out 10 gallons of water and then added 20, and I still have the spike, it is not an ideal situation for six fish to be in a 22 gallon tank, but I guess it is better thanuffering in a tank that now needs to finish cycling again. I am thinking about taking all of the LR out of the 22 and putting it in the 45, but that gives my fish now where to hide, I'll have to leave the corals, I am just so upset. Any idea what to do and how long it will take? Also, ammmonia is undetectable in my 14, but it is not finished cycling, so I can't really put anything in there either, meanwhile. Help. Candra

Ammonia checks out at 0ppm and Every one else seems okay, I haven't seen my sixline wrasse yet, I added some biozyme (nitrifying bacteria) and my tank is only 3/4 full as I switched to a bigger one yesterday which I am sure is responsible for the spike) I know a water change would help, but would just adding the last 10-15 gallons make a difference? It would be like doing 25-35% water change Ammonia 0ppm Nitrite .5 ppm Nitrate between 10 and 20 ppm pH is low at 7.8, so I know I need to bring that up, but thank goodness it is low, or else I probably would have had a crash with the nitrite so high! Oh, I removed the coral beauty to another tank, and she seems to be doing better, but this is only temporary, as this tank is too small for her, but at least she's not lying on her side and pale any longer. I like him I think he's pretty, and still to little to be mean as heck. He's only about the size of a quarter. That being said , I am sure that he will be a mean little cuss in the future. Candra

I took it out, I will probably get rid of it, but my kids wanted to see it, so I still have it.

Two of my tanks I purchased already cycled, the third one, which I cycled myself (and is midcycle right now) I did with a pair of dalmation mollies. They were for my son's room and he wanted fish in it now. I also used live sand and filled it full of live rock. the molly is doing fine and we just added a domino damsel the other day, also doing just fine, I haven't tested his water yet this week, but I am guessing the only thing I need to get down is the nitrate, based on the behavior of the fish. It's some sort of starfish... lol I can tell you that much, It is VERY tiny, and blue gray on the top, white on the bottom. I've read some stars are good and some are bad, which one is this before I get rid of it or put it back in the tank! Oh I know you weren't trying to flame me, I just wanted to let you know what I plan on doing. As far as petco goes the new one in Harker Heights has a very well informed aquatics specialist, who has acutally kept saltwater fish before, and she is very knowledgeable, unfortunatly this is not the case in most stores. I did do the research before I purchased him, or rescued him rather in my opinion, and understand fully what it requires Candra

I do have some corals (mushroom, some yellow star polyp, some small frags of digita that are doing okay, but would be much happier under better light, as well as better color.) that do not require as intense lighting as most, but decided to upgrade lighting so I can put some in that require more intense lighting, since I can't add any more fish, and I love all the colors I can get in there too with the options of other corals. I mean, I am getting this light this weekend, so it won't be much longer. And as far as the foxface goes, I am planning on getting a larger tank soon, as soon as I can afford it (maybe for my birthday at the beginning of April), and as soon as I do the research and am confident the move won't harm them I will be doing so. Also, he is much happier in my tank then he was in the tank at petco, maybe not as happy as he could be, but much happier! Candra

I add about a gallon of water every other day, so it's not too bad, I just put a lid on it, so I am hoping I'll see a difference with evap there. Maybe I should remove the lid while I up the gravity?

I read no more than .001 per day? So if it is 1.023 today get it to 1.024 tomorrow, or should I do it even slower, like maybe over the course of a week?

My angel doesn't nip, I keep it pretty well fed (thank goodness for a good cleanup crew), and like I said, I plan on removing 2 fish when my other tank cycles, about 2 more weeks, that would bring me down to four in there, and two are smaller, I also plan on removing the foxface when he gets bigger or upgrading to a bigger tank in a month or two. I know I need to raise the salinity gradually, what is the best way to do that, mix some water that is a little bit more concentrated and add it as I need to top off? Candra

So yeah, I want to start putting some more corals in my tank, since I have enough (or more than enough) fish already. I will be buying a Metal Halide this weekend (250 W), so I am wondering, since the tank has been running for 1 1/2 years, and the water is in good condition, and I do weekly weather changes of about 5 gallons, is good lighting the only thing they really need, or are their supplements, etc that they need, and what needs to be tested besides, the basics (like calcium, hardness, alkalinity, etc.) I use RO water for my top offs and changes. Oh, and would this light be good for 'nems also, I'd like to try them as well if it will work. And should I leave my 50/50 light on as well as the metal halide, or will the MH totally overpower it. I like it because it is acetinic, I read somewhere that is necessary for a certain biological process. My water parameters are as follows (what I am testing now) pH is 8.2 to 8.3 Ammonia 0 Nitrites 0 Nitrates 0 Specific gravity is very stable at 1.023 Thanks, Candra

Well, in my defense, the o clowns are going in the 14 when it has cycled. And also, I plan on rehoming, either with someone else or in a larger tank in my home, the foxface as he grows, I just felt so bad for him in his 8*8 cell at the LFS, that I had to take him home with me, he was there for over a month!

Hello, Every one, my name is Candra and I live in Ft. Hood (I hope that is okay). I am a new reefer and have a 29 gallon tank that is overstocked, but I can't help it, I love the fishies. I also have a 3 gallon FoWLR, although, it is probably too small for fish and he'll probably go to my 29 when my sons 14 cycles and I put my o clowns in his F0WLR tank. We have, in our 29, a pair of ocellaris clowns, a coral beauty, a royal gramma, a six-line Wrasse, and a one-spot foxface. We also have a few soft corals and thanks to mdavis735 we have a few montiporta digita frags as well to see how they will do with our lighting, although, I plan on upgrading in the very near future. My seven year old son has a 14 gallon bow-front tank as well which will be FOWLR, right now it has live rock a molly and we added a domino damsel today, we'll see how that goes. My 3 gallon has a very tiny maroon clown, and right now is FOWLR, will probably change it over to coral and inverts. I am an army wife and mom to four kids ranging in ages between one and eight. I have been reefkeeping since February 12, when I purchased a year old tank off craigslist, wish I would have held out for a larger one. Anything else you'd like to know about me, just ask. Candra

Well, my fish are as follows, a Coral Beauty (this is the one I worry about) 2 o clowns, a royal gramma, a onespot fox face, and a 6 line wrasse. Would they survive the cycle or nitrate spike, this stuff should prevent that? Will a 250 MH be enough light for a 45? I have some feather dusters and corals also.

So, I was thinking of upgrading to a larger tank, and what I want to know is if I use the same rock and sand and water that is in my tank if it would cycle. I'd obviously have to add more sand because this one would be six inches wider across, and I only have a little over an inch to begin with, would you use live sand? I don't know if I'd add more rock right away, as it is hard to come by cheaply around here in Killeen (8.99 per pound). anyhow, I'd be upgrading from a 29 to a 45. The tank that I have now has been up and running for 19 months, and is coral and fish tank (no nem's). Thanks, Candra
