There is no gate valve. It has a small ball valve, as shown in the pic. I have downloaded the owner's manual in PDF and can gladly e-mail that to you if you'd like. I also contacted Precision Marine and spoke to Mike, he says this skimmer is not sold with a gate valve and does not recommend installing one. The skimmer does have a bag of accessories it comes with like the drain assembly, muffler, etc. Hope that helps -Mike

I bought a PM Bullet 1 skimmer, and then sold the tank I was going to put it on. I am going skimmerless on my 125, so I have no use for this. This skimmer has never been used and has never seen water. Comes with all acessories, no feed pump included. Price is $200.00 and I'll ship it to the Austin area for that price. -Mike

I moved my Crocea a few months ago. I just waited until he was closed (lights out) and gently gripped the sides and slightly bumped it a few times until he let go on his own. moved him to a larger rock and he has had no ill affects. I asked the question on RC'S clam forum, they suggested the razor method.

I have quite a bit of shrooms under MH lighting. What I have seen is they will generally "move" around on the rock until they are happy, sometimes they have even let go of the rock to find another spot. Generally they like non-direct light. Can you put a small rock to sort of shield them some?

Well, the first thing you need to know is there are alot of opinions and alot of different ways to accomplish what you would like to acheive. The first thing you should do, (if you haven't already) is decide what you would like to keep in a marine aquarium. Literally hundreds (or more) options there. Then, after that you can build your set-up to accomodate what you would like to keep. To answer your question with my opinion, a sump can have different choices as far as media; some of the most popular choices are live rock and bioballs. since your still in the design phase, research refugiums and try to integrate one into your sump. With the tank size you posted, I would look into an Aqua C Urchin for your protein skimmer, they are really easy to get set up and very affordable. I applaud you for asking questions and researching this hobby before you jump in, that sort of patience will pay off for you in the long run.

I agree with Blindside on the GSP, I have a TON of it in my FOWLR, and every now and then a rock or two will close up for a day or two.. One hint is GSP loves nitrates and pollution. Any change in lighting, replaced old bulbs with new, etc.?

The fan should do a decent job of cooling your water some. It will interrupt the heat being transfered from your light fixture to the water. You have a Solana right? With the open top and the fan, should keep it at 80 or below. Also, try keeping the fan on overnight and this will give you a cooler starting temp before the lights come on. I have done that for a long time with success
