  1. I think we are talking about a different episode as you showed yourself setting up the tank I believe? It was the 2x2' cube. I dont think there were fish(coral food) in the LED tank. I know you plumbed into the existing sump from the other tank but like I said the "fat boy", as I think it was called, was too sterile or too clean in your words. Eh either way I would still need more spread unless the Vega could fill the gap...

  2. Any other SPS keepers that have switched to LED's?

That'd be me. Everything is running along fine under LEDs. Coral growth hasn't slowed. Color is as good, if not better, no heat issues.

Thats good to hear. Your Mr Saltwater TV led experiment talked me down from my LED purchase but you did say the tank was very sterile and new. I might try it again but the lack of spread of the current models is also a big minus for my size tank. I can run 750w of mh with my large lumenbright but if I can get away with ~500w of LEDs... that would be even better. Not even going to mention the sticker shock. :)

The first picture I was a little sceptical on but this one sure looks like it. It kills clowns very quick though(mine were dead in 2 days). I now keep formalin on hand for this reason as the day I discovered it no LFS in NB were open or they didn't have it. The next day they were dead. Luckily they were in my QT instead of my DT but I was shocked how fast they died.

This is why I am wondering if it isn't Marine Velvet as yours seemed to live a little longer. Copper is very useful if it is. I also say this because Brook(also known as Clownfish Disease) is rarily found on other species( I do remember someone posting a pic of a yellow tang with it though so it isn't impossible of course). Just thought I would throw it out there so you could research that and see what you think.

  4. I would go with DSA or AGE over GC. My 375 is built from DSA and I am VERY happy with it. Ocean view is a offshoot of DSA fyi and cheaper. The best thing about AGE though is that they are light, very light. We moved a 300 with only 4 people very easy.

  5. I will meet the buyer in South Austin if that helps. It will give me an excuse to stop by the Dome. How about $450 I need to buy some streams to replace this. Keep in mind this is the newer box.

  6. Well this worked great in the 375 until I got the sump online which I found the water level to be too high to use this. It has 3 days of use on it.

Asking $500 obo but would trade for some tunze controllable powerheads probably.

My loss your gain. It will even come setup timed for an 8 foot tank(plug and play) :)

  7. Weekend bump. If interested shoot me an offer.

Im thinking of changing up the lighting. Most of this is new as I am still using my t5s on the tank for now. If I get enough interest I will sell these if not I will just use them:

Here is what I have: 3 brand new Lumenbright SE pendants(these are about 20" wide): $125 each pic/info below

    2 used 250w coralvue ballast- $75 each

    1 brand new 250w coralvue ballast- $100 pic/info below

Located in San Antonio but could work something out if interested.

  9. I would just put two 250 watt halides. Ive never run a chiller with any of my tanks. You could even alternate them on in 6 hour intervals so in reality you only have one light on but then when it goes out the other kicks on giving you 12 hour light cycle. Definately wouldnt need a chiller then.

  10. AquaDome meeting! I work until 6 on Sundays. How late will it be going on?

Well the presentation is expected to be around 20-30 minutes. But most of the time we hang out and talk reef for awhile. If you want I can give you my number and you can text to make sure we are still there?

Looking forward to meeting up with the Austin folks again. I dont make it up there as much since I moved from San Marcos.

  11. A rule of thumb I was told when I first started is generally sharp pinchers on a crab= not reef safe. Being so small that will be pretty hard to tell. But then again, almost all crabs(except porcelain crabs which feed on micro organisms) are oportunistic feeders. Welcome to the boards and sounds like you have done your research waiting is the key in this hobby. :)

  12. Cleaner fish/shrimp only can get to the trophont stage(I think) so they will not ever completely irradicate the parasite as ich will develope in gills and other places the cleaners cant get to. The fish will build up a resistance to ich overtime though. Feed heavily and you ought to be fine.

Plus get the wrasses on frozen food as soon as possibly as they will starve like said above.

UV sterilizers are also helpful but also not 100% effective as some wont make it in the sterilizer. Anyways best of luck. IME Ich looks alot worse than anything else. Just keep them fed good and you ought to be fine.
