  1. I've got a rather large coral banded shrimp (2-3in) that is getting to be a bit aggressive for my 45g tank. I think he'd be better if there were more room but my clowns keep invading his turf. He's really cool and spends most of the day perched under a rock like spiderman... its rad... willing to trade for fish or corals or other stuff you might want to get rid of. I could use a sump but it'd have to be small enough to fit. ThanX
  2. If anything falls through, i will take it from ya. eric
  3. Just found some stuff growing on a rock in the back of my tank that i have never seen before. It looks like a plant of some kind or something. anyone have any ideas???

    LTA help

Hey all, I got an LTA from aqua dome a few days ago. It seemed to be doing really fine the first couple of days in the spot where i put it, though the clowns wouldn't and haven't taken to it. Then i noticed it had moved to the other side of the tank. I was told that they move around quite a bit and hence didn't do much but stare at it for a while. I had to pull him out of my koralia pumps twice and moved the pumps around a bit until I found a way to not have him get sucked right up into it. Today he looks like he is dying or something. He is about 1/3 the size he was when i got him and some of the tentacles are curling and a brownish color. some still appear to be alive. I gave him a tiny piece of krill which it seemed to enjoy for a bit but he just seems to be motionless. Anyone have any idea what could be going on? any chance of nurturing something like this back to health? any help is appreciated. Thx, Eric
  6. Hey guys my tank is running great and so far i have no casualties to report!! I just have a couple of quick questions that are probably simple answers. Where should my pump placement be? I have a 45g corner and 2 koriala pumps and I just want to know what type of circulation i want. should it just spin circular or should i point them at each other does it even matter? Also, I've got a couple of tank raised o. clowns that i just added last week. They paired up instantly and are inseparable. They've picked out their spot in the tank and have dug all the way to the glass on the bottow. Whenever the light is out they are just lying down there in it or cleaning it out. What the heck are they doing? I've heard about fish doing things like this to spawn but it seems odd that they would show those actions within a week. anyone? thx eric
  7. I'm running 5.5 watts per gallon right now and if i leave it on for that long it gets up to about 84 so I've been having it on from 6am to about 11 and then again from 4 until about 11 or something like that. It works great for keeping the temp where it should be and its getting a good amount of light. A big reason i did it is because i typically get up really early and go to sleep pretty late and with no one to show this thing off to during the day, it might as well rest. could i be doing damage of any kind? I never really thought to see if that would work but while reading this thread it got me thinking. thx eric
  8. I'm looking to add a coral banded shrimp to my 45. Everytime i have a chance to go to a store they are out of them so i thought i'd see if anyone is looking to get rid of one. Any of the variations of the banded would be alright as well. thx, Eric

    New Setup!!!

Finally some life in the tank!!! I'm going to add a coral banded shrimp and a peppermint in the next week or so. I hope the hawk leaves the peppermint alone. ive heard it can be tough. any recommendations on other things that would be good additions to the tank? Eric

    New Setup!!!

well, I want to do a bit of a balance between a full on reef tank and a fish tank. I plan on starting with some simple mushroom and zoo corals and working my way up. as far as fish go, i got a flame hawkfish today and plan on adding a clown pair and maybe one or 2 more. this is basically just going to be my jumpstart into something that i know is about to get out of control. If you have any recommendations on some tank mates for the hawk or some good corals to start with let me know.
  11. Hey all, I'm finally up and running and have some life going in my tank!! I am looking to start adding some corals slowly. This will be my first attempt at a reef so i'm looking for something that doesnt require a wealth of knowledge. I've already added a Flame Hawkfish and am planning on doing 2 clowns of some kind in the near future. If you have any fish that might fit in my aquarium let me know (its a 45G) If anyone is looking to get rid of some stuff send me a PM and we can work something out. I have off today, tomorrow afternoon, and all day sunday. Thanks a lot!! Eric

    New Setup!!!

Well, after additions, subtractions, things breaking, and other things being fixed this is where i am at. I have a eheim pro filter and a red sea prism skimmer for the filtration. I have 2 koreala (sp?) powerheads that are creating really good flow through the tank. I'm wondering if there are better locations for any of those things in the tank that will be more beneficial to it. I also re did the rocks because i was not quite as satisfied as before. any opinions on the current look? and finally... There are a few little heads that pop up out of one of the rocks... what do i have here? thanks everyone!!! Eric
  13. If you know someone that needs to get rid of some clowns, i would probably take them in a week or so once my system is fully up and running (assuming my water quality is there). eric
  14. ditto. I hate when people hijack threads and stuff so make sure that Cuber is all taken care of first. I've got a 45 gallon and honestly dont really know what i need. as just going to start off with some snails and hermits and a peppermint shrimp or banded shrimp.
  15. thanks for the link. ill more than definitely check out the link. and mike, thanks a ton. thats really awesome that you'd be willing to do that but i think i found a setup to pick up tomorrow.
  16. do you happen to have a link or any other info? I'll check it out after work today. Thanks alot. sounds like exactly what i need. eric
  17. I'm hoping that someone has an extra hang on back type skimmer or canister filter or something for my 45 gallon. I had a penguin biowheel filter in it but it crapped out yesterday (after only like 5 months. anyone know warranty details), and i just need something to take over. I was planning on upgrading anyway, i guess it just has to be a paycheck earlier. Also looking for one powerhead and a fan of some sorts, or something else to keep it cool. the temp got almost to 90 after being on for a full 10 or so hours. I'm almost certain that i cant afford a chiller but who knows. if anyone has any good DIY type ideas of how to do this i would love the info. Thanks, this site has been like my bible for the last few weeks!!! eric

    New Setup!!!

Well after a few additions here is where i am at. anyone have any landscaping type recommendations or anything like that? I think its turning out pretty good and i am glad a got to make myself a bit of a cave in the center as that was my original plan. Thanks agian to mike for the rock!!! Now i just need to get my water all sorted out and whatnot and It'll be time to start adding some life to it.

    New Setup!!!

Thanks for all the help everyone. I just learned about the whole bio-filtration deal with the live rocks... just forgot i guess. I'm hoping to add some live rock in the next couple of weeks and assuming my wallet isnt completely empty some extra little critters. What would be an ideal cleanup crew for the tank? ericericericericericericericericeric
  20. Well i finally got my light hung today (thanks again, Nano Steve) and am going to be making a trip up to aquatek to get me some live sand and rubble for in my filter. I'm pretty excited to be only weeks away from having this thing going!!! Its a 45g corner. I have a piece of holey rock that i used in the tank before going salty with it. Is this something that would be worth putting into the tank to pile live rock around? that way i dont have to spend $50 on a rock thats going to be covered by the others. Also, how much rock should i plan on getting if i want to do both fish and corals? I'm thinking about doing like 50 pounds or so. Also, should i be using the air stone thinger? not sure on whether its good in saltwater too or not?? I'll keep updating as this thing comes together. I'm pumped!!
