  1. You can buy a device called the Kill-A-Watt Meter. It is rated up to 15 amps. You plug it in, set your electric rate, and then plug your tank into it. It will monitor your power consumption over time and estimate your monthly bill. With light cycles you would want to monitor in full 24 hour increments to get accurate results. Unfortunately this will not include the added load your AC is running to compensate for the heat your tank is giving off to the room. Our 34g with LED lighting is about $6 per month. It was about $12 with the 150W MH, plus we where borderline needing to add a chiller.

    Sorry to jump off topic.

  2. Dena refused to submit this, so I am doing it for her. This is a photo of some extremely rare and highly sought after red slime. As you can see from the photo this stuff has been able to mature some. It has that nice thick consistancy that is so charished. You can almost just lift this off the bottom of the tank.

  3. You need to get a MIG welder and some 2x2 square steel tubing. Then get a piece of 1/2" steel plate. Then you can say it is over built. :-)

I just built one for the 120G 4x2x2 tank we are going to setup in the new house. I only used 2x4 and 1/2" plywood. The side where skinned with 1/4" Oak, and I think it would hold my 3/4 ton diesel truck up. Sorry I do not have pictures and it is already moved to storage.

  4. I spent my youth working too hard. I learned a lot of valuable lessons, but am just starting to step back and enjoy myself. Working 60+ hours a week through High School and College was too much. My biggest mistake was not being old (wise) enough to understand the value of money. Now It just seems the more I make the more I spend. I believe there are too many factors in life to generalize youth (Family, Peers, Social Status, Financial Status, Geographic location, etc.).

  5. It was pretty on and off all weekend. It looks like the hosting company is a small shop and they where having problems with their system that routes traffic to the appropriate web server. I emailed one of the contact addresses I found for the company, but never heard anything back. seems to be OK this evening.

  6. How many GPH is your overflow rated for? These are by far the CHEAPEST overflows Ive seen! And being in this hobby, cheap, but of good quality, is DEF what i'm looking for.

I'm just hoping I can hook everything up right :/

I am not sure you you would measure the flow rate, but here is info on my setup. I have a single overflow box that dumps into my refugium. Everything is wide open and a I have a 350GPH pump that returns the water to the tank. My refugium is also along side my tank, so I am sure this slows the water flow to some extent.

  7. Wanted to share some photos of "Puff Daddy" AKA "Chomp" from Aqua Dome. Puff has been settled in now for a couple weeks. He now lives in a 110G 6ft long FOWLR. His companions are a Rabbit Fish (Bugs), Yellow Tang (Sunny), Dog Face Puffer (D.O.G.), and some crabs. FOr those of you that have met him at Aqua Dome you know about his unique personallity. We hand feed him is Krill, and he let's me rub his belly. Last night Dena opened the lid too soon and when Puff saw the bag of Krill he splashed about 2 gallons of water on the floor.

  8. I don't think the t5's we had where causing the problem, as they where on the tank from the previous owner. I can see how it may be contributing to the growth. I put a 96W PC on it for now, but it is very short. I will come up with something once the new canopy is built. It sounds like it just may have been from stirring up the sand. The Algea started before we even added the two puffers.

  9. We have some limestone that came out of a tank in SA. It was in there for a couple years and then we had it in ours for a few months. It is now dried out in the garage. You are welcome to it.

  10. Any reason you do not want to use the black plastic. I have the more expensive stuff on our 100G and it looks good. It went on just like window tint. You would still have to move the tank away from the wall, but all the way out to the garage.

  11. From the research I have done Acrylic will not block any of the light rays that the tanks needs. Glass will block certain light. Regal plastics sells Acrylic and they can cut it to size for you if you do not have the equipment to do it yourself.

With all that said we do not have a cover on our 100G or the 30G Refugium. I am currently adding about 3 gallons per day.
