  1. Hey Jolt, yes Ive seen it, Ive actually watched the whole 52 week series and go back and watch others from time to time.

I know that one isnt part of that series, but thanks for that reminder though. I watched it again and got some good ideas from it.

  2. Uggg aggravated at BRS at the moment. I ordered 100 pounds of pukani and specified no extra large rocks.

Two boxes arrived today, lots of rubble in both boxes and 1 massive rock in each box.

They will both fit, but I really didnt want to do it that way.

I guess my idea of extra large and their idea of it is totally two different things.

  3. I went a different route and ordered two of the Photon 32-v2 from Reef Breeders.

They had a sale and saved a little money, tho not nearly as cheap had I gotten the Ocean Revives.

I have a friend who has them and loves them and he talked me into them.

Has anyone tried the mounts that ReefKoi sells?

I like the mount, not the price tag and not sure if it would sag over a 6' tank.

  4. Beautiful tank, love the video. What is the coral that has encrusted the rock on the left side? There is a hole that a fish is peeking out of it.

Im colorblind so Im not sure what color it is, but it is nice looking.

  5. Did you do a step by step on it with pictures by any chance? lol

I have read about people removing the optics, but not actually replacing the diodes.

I could def. see a benefit in adding more warm whites.

Where did you get the diodes?

I havent seen the fixture in person, but have watched a bunch of videos on them, including yours.

  6. Thanks for all the info, much appreciated. Im not sure I could replace diodes unless I seen a video explaining EXACTLY how to do it lol

Im pretty good with a soldering iron, just havent done anything like that before. I would think adding that many more soft whites would give

you some good lighting for the whites. I really dont plan on alot of SPS at least not until I get comfortable doing easier corals first and keeping my water in good shape.

The tank is 72 X 24 X 24 so good to know it will only take 3 of these.

  7. Dang beautiful tank, I cant tell a difference in the two, but Im colorblind, but the tank looks nicely lit up.

Why did you take the green and red diodes out?

I was thinking I needed 3 of the 247's for a 6' tank, am I correct in this?

For now I will just get the 247's and maybe later supplement with T5's when my budget recovers.

  8. I noticed that Ocean Revive is running a good sale on their Arctic 247 on the 23rd.....is anyone running these and if so how do you like them?

I think I saw FarmerTy was running them at one time but I cant seem to find what Im looking for.

  9. just finished the whole thread, what a roller coaster for you.

Im not sure what you have planned for your metal building, but 4 years ago I finished out one on my property.

I did have to put up a few studs here and there but what I did was insulate it and instead of using sheetrock I used

cedar planks for the roof and upper part, and some cedar that my dad cut with his sawmill. For the walls I used cabinet grade plywood and stained it.

I thought it turned out nice, the building is a little smaller than yours (16 X 32 )

It not a fish room, it houses my train layout.

I cant find a complete finished picture, but here is a before and after before stain.

In the first pic I took out that doorway and made it flush with the wall.

Its totally insulated, I use a window unit for cooling and a small heater in the winter.

    Just another idea for you.

  10. Have you thought about drilling your rock? KimP has a video here on drilling. Drilling has the advantage of being able to change it if needed as your corals grow. IMO it's also easier to do arches and bridges than with cement alone.

HaHa loved the video, very informative and at the end was too funny...gig em

  11. . . . Timfish, I wasn't considering a sand sifting star, was more talking about gobys and shrimp, but thanks for the info.

Sorry! I read through your post too fast. hmm.png

No reason to be sorry at all :)

I was actually interested in them at one time but after reading how hard they were to keep Ive decided to stick to a goby :)

Im here to learn from you guys and appreciate all input.

  12. Yeah Ive seen it so many different ways its all just muddled in my head now lol

I settled on this way so the skimmer gets the dirty water and I wasnt planning on running socks.

I could always move it later since all of the sections could fit the skimmer this way.

The other thing Im not sure about is baffle height.

The skimmer says it needs 6-10" of water, so I could make the first baffle 12" and use a stand to adjust the skimmer?

The next set of baffles 14" with it 2" off bottom so 16" total height.

    Middle baffle 11"

last baffle 14" with 2" off bottom, 16" total height.

That should leave me plenty of room for ato and back drain in the last section if power goes out?

Like I said, this is the first time Ive ever run a sump or made one so Im not sure on any of this.

  13. Thanks Jolt, I'll eventually get the hang of it.

The flow goes over the first baffle and then under over under on the 3 baffles which

are 2" apart and 2" off bottom.

Crude drawing I know, I just found this sketchup and its my first try at this.

  14. I want to start building my sump and will be my first time to do so or even have a sump.

The tank is a 55 gal 48 x 12.8 x 21, the skimmer size is 14.8 X 10.25, the output is 6.5" and it says to have a sump water depth of 6 to 10"

I cut up an old 30 gallon tank to use the glass for baffles.

First chamber houses skimmer and output line from DT and is 15" with the flow going over the first baffle.

The second chamber is for the refugium and is 14" and the last chamber is for the return pump and is 13". I have a seperate tank for ato that I was going to put next to the tank next to the return section

and use the return section to pump ato in to.

The 3 baffles between the fuge and return are 2" apart and under over under with 2" under spacing.

Is this design right or ok and how tall do I make the baffles?

I have a picture that I drew with sketchup but I dont know how to post it here. It asks for a url but its on my pc. Do I have to use something like photobucket to post pictures?

  15. Thanks for the responses, I guess when the time comes I will decide about the eggcrate, depending on how I aquascape it.

Timfish, I wasn't considering a sand sifting star, was more talking about gobys and shrimp, but thanks for the info.

  16. I hope Im putting this in the right area, I didn't see a beginner section to ask it. I did do a search, but after 2 hours of reading threads I thought Id just ask.

My plan is to put my rock directly on the bottom glass and fill around it with the sand.

I will also be adding sand sifting fish and such later as well. I like the look of fine sand, but dont like sandstorms either. I'll have med to high flow.

#1. Do i need to cover the bottom glass with egg crate to put the rock on and cover in sand?

#2. I don't want a DSB, is 1" to 1 1/2" enough for the type of fish I'm wanting to add?

#3. The dreaded which brand and size to get question. I think I have it narrowed down to three.

    Carib Sea special grade reef

    Tropic Eden Mesoflakes

Bahama Aragonite Sand from Marco Rocks

I have no experience with the size of these or the brands. Im just going by all the research Ive done and tried to pick what seems would fit to what I want it to do.

Help with the questions and suggestions and advice please.

    Thanks
