I would not recommend 3 to start.  The gen4 are supposedly stronger than the gen3 that I run.  I would  recommend to structure the aquascape keeping in mind the PAR pattern of the lights though.  So basically a rock structure centered under each fixture will get most PAR at the center.  BRS had some good videos where they measured PAR distribution on the gen4 lights, might be good to google those

Gotcha! Thanks for the info, and by the way I checked out your frag tank my only reaction is 🤤....lol

I am running 2 xr30 pro gen3 on my 48x24 frag tank.  It's definitely enough light.  I am gonna add a third though because I want more even PAR coverage side-to-side, but then I am an acropora addict.  You can see a recent pic of how that is growing coral in the last page of my build thread

You think I should should go with 3 for long term? Eventually one day I would love to have a tank full of acros but that won’t be for a long time.

I love it. you are building some peoples dream tanks but your taking it easy and not going overboard.

I cant wait to see what you do past the starter phase

Lol thanks, I went overboard last time and not trying to go that route again 😃

  5. So the tank dimensions are 47”x 20”. For lights I plan on using radions. I’m thinking 2 xr-30s (recommend spread is 24x24) should be plenty of coverage but will it be overkill? Or should I do 3 xr-15s? ( recommend spread 18x18) once I put the lights on I don’t want to have to add more or change them. What do y’all think?

  6. Got some stuff ordered today through Jake

    ordered the Red Sea 350

    reef octopus regal 200 skimmer

reef octopus various 2 dc pump

    new apex

    2 ecotech mp-40s

That should get me started for now. Going to start ordering the dry rock the next couple days and sand. Tank should be here Friday if all goes well!

  7. Well I’m back after only being gone for literally 3 months. 240 is long gone. Decided to go with something a bit more manageable this time. I’m going to order a Red Sea Reefer 350 through RCA. Only thing I can’t decide on is what powerheads I want to run this time. I’ve done the neptunes, gyres, and mp-40’s. I’m torn whether I want to spend the money on the vortechs or be cheap and go with the gyres again. It’s going to be a mixed reef but I want to get into the sps game one day. Any advise to help me finally make a decision is needed 😜

Got a nice used sump from Jen. I'm a realist with my free time and know it'll be a few months before I get it swapped out.

I put it on its side and currently using it as a tank towel holder. I took a look at it the other day and saw it looking back at me. emoji4.pngaf0b7c7089444b5af63bf616ea7c3e42.jpgdb3406e35e8c843c159f226ea6c3d201.jpge436668ddfb9ffdf4c48a517d279701e.jpg

I actually kept the bashsea t-shirt that came with it. Ahh I feel so much better now not holding on to that secret anymore 😜

  9. Got your stuff for you! Broke down the tank on Sunday. Ty actually carried the tank out all by himself 💪🏼  Just shoot me a text tomorrow so we can coordinate pickup. Ps tank looks awesome

  10. Ty always told me to try an introduce something that will out compete the Dino's. Read on reef 2 reef a lot of people were using vibrant and complaining that it caused cyano. So I grabbed a bottle hoping to get cyano and I did. I let it kind of get out of hand for awhile to make sure it was smothering the Dino. I then turned around and used Chemi clean to get rid of the cyano, did a 50 gallon water change and things seem to be back on track again. Maybe it was a fluke or maybe it really worked.....

Oh, I guess I should update when I have a chance.

So, got marine velvet from a frag last month. Didn't realize that was what it was immediately as I haven't added fish for 7-8 months at that point so just figured ich from the stress of moving. I had already moved my fish out for ich 2 months ago and they were sitting in the tub.

I had put 5 fish back into the DT to test it. They immediately got velvet which I misdiagnosed as ich. Seeing them get spots so quickly, I figured the tank was still crawling with too much ich so I pulled them back out and put them back in the tub, unknowingly spreading the velvet to the rest of the fish in the tub.

Lo and behold, all fish had velvet at that point and before I realized what was happening (velvet can kill in a matter of days), I lost 3/4 of my fish stock, including most of my angels.

So, I'm left with 6 now. Small baby regal, blonde naso tang, 2 clownfish (they survive everything, including the first velvet attack 3 years ago), flame angel, and flame hawkfish.

I lost my emperor angel, majestic angel, flame wrasse and pyramid butterfly fish. I had previously lost all my purple Anthias in the move, lost my powder blue tang and potter's angel to ich, and lost my yellow sided fairy wrasse and midas blenny to my sea cucumber nuking the tank.

So... Its been a rough fish transition with the tank move.

Fortunately, the corals are growing gangbusters so once I get the all clear on velvet, there will be a huge frag sale as I try to build up funds for a fish restocking party.

    What's left...

So sorry about your fish Ty, I'll make sure to participate in your frag sale to help with your restocking party ?

Have a few fish in quarantine.  Going to start an ich treatment (ich shield powder) and PraziPro. I considered doing the tank transfer method for ich treatment, but the cost for doing it on 40g tanks adds up quickly. (Sorry for the blurry pics)

Also I wanted to prevent algae from growing in the overflow - its pretty hard to clean back there with the canopy on, so I made a cover out of acrylic. I still need to adjust it a tad bit, but it turned out pretty well for a 20 min project. I should have done it sooner!

I have the same exact tank as you. Funny I just bought a piece of acrylic to cover the over flow box as well. Having major algae issues in there. With my lights hanging it's hard for me to get in and clean. Right now I have a towel temporarily covering the overflow till I can do like you did lol. I have no algae anywhere else other then there. Almost looks like a refuguim!

  13. That's not bad at all! Kind of ran into the same situation as you. Bought a 92 gallon corner tank, re-sealed it, and 6 months later found a small leak in the front seam where it meets the base today ?. Taking care of two tanks is getting a little old so I'm thinking about upgrading to the 300 so I can combine everything from the 180 and 92 into one.....I just was afraid the time frame was going to be to long to wait for a 300 so I was already thinking about plan b lol

  14. How long did it take for the tank to be delivered from the initial order? I'm looking to upgrade to a 300 as well but wondering what the time frame was!

The tank took about a month and a half to get to my house. They were very quick. I know they were going to macna right after I ordered and they anticipated a little more lead time after from sales.

This 300 build has been a part time job. Well worth it.[emoji1]
