  2. I have been expecting the fish to whittle themselves down one or two while they establish the pecking order so it's not that much of a suprise. So far I'm down from 11 to 10. Nine of them school together regularily most of the day in the top 20% of the tank. The smallest of the bunch spend the majority of the time alone in the bottom 20% of the tank. Hopefully the little guy is allowed to get bigger and rejoins the herd.

I originally bought 15 green Chromis for my 150g. 1 died in QT and 2 others died in the 150. There wasn't any aggression. I think the first one died because it was already afflicted with some sort of issue. The 2nd Chromis' tail was rotting just slightly and then the 3rd one had ich. The rest of the group are very hungry and healthy. They get fed 2-3 times per day. They eat frozen mysis, live blackworms and various types of pellets.

When I first put the Chromis in the tank, I had 2 Lyretail Anthias (squamipinnis) - 1 male, 1 female. The Chromis took immediately to the male. They schooled with him. It was really cute, but the Anthias was not a fan at first but he finally got used to them. Everywhere he goes, he has a gang of Chromis following. It's very fun to watch.

I was told to expect a 20% loss of my Chromis and I have experienced that. The remaining fish look like they'll make it. Good luck with yours. They're a fun addition to the tank.

funny, i want three chromis in my tank. ordered three, arrived dead. reshipped 3 and one died in QT. so now 2 in DT. ordered a replacement and it arrived dead yesterday. i'm just going to go to a store and pick up the next one.

I got mine from RCA. They got 15 in and I grabbed them all. :) These seem like the type of fish to personally pick out at the LFS.

  3. I lost my first Green Chromis today. I'm not 100% sure what happened to him, but he had a pretty nasty gash on his right side. Within 5 minutes of seeing the gasping fish, the body was gone. I would say the BTA injured him as he has already eatten two fish, but I doubt the small chromis could get away from the stickiness! Before seeing the fish injured, there was no sign of stress or injury.

  4. I purchased a used Tunze Wavebox (6215, I think) over the weekend. I am debating on which tank to put it in. I have a 100 gallon seahorse tank (60x18x22) that I would love to use the wavebox in (need help getting detritus out of the rocks), but some of the reading I have done so far suggests that may not be a good idea. Something about the tank being long and that it creates higher waves, which will end up sloshing out... The other tank I have is a 150 cube (36x36x36). Would this tank be the better candidate for the wavebox? Is there any way I could make this work for my 100 gallon?

  5. I appreciate all of the responses. From the sound of it, no matter what this guy is, it's probably best to remove him from the DT. I have a peppermint shrimp I want to evict, as well as a blue devil damselfish, so I'll probably remove some rock and catch all three at once this evening.

  6. gorilla crab?

I personally caught a large emerald attacking one of my clams, I banished him to the sump and the clam recovered.

P.S there is now a forum for I.D threads to go into.

I posted from my TapaTalk application on my phone and didn't see it. I thought it had existed, but it didn't show up for me. I see that it has been moved over. Thank you for that!

  7. There is a black crab hitchhiker that has been in my 29g Nano Cube since Nov. 2012. He has grown a lot since then. When he waves his claws at you, he stretches to about 2.5 to 3 inches. Some of my coral frags have been messed with (I have to put them in a cage for protection) and a small Squamosa clam mantle damaged (led to its death). I am thinking this crab is the guilty party. Can anyone tell me what type of crab he might be?

  8. I awoke to a surprise this morning: My rose bubble anemone split last night! Not sure why, because the lighting on my Nano Cube was out for 3 days and I had to wait an extra week to get the replacement hood shipped out. While I was waiting on the hood, I had to use much weaker lighting on the tank. It has now been a week since the new hood was installed (it seems better than the original) and obviously the anemone is very happy! This is the first time I have had this happen in my tank.

My clowns are still claiming both.

  9. +1 on using a Peppermint Shrimp. I have 1 in my 29g and 2 in my 100g. They DESTROYED the aiptasia that was already living in the tanks in very short order. I have not seen any pop up ever since. I bought a clam a while back that had some aiptasia living on its shell. The next morning, after placing it in my 29g, all of the aiptasia was gone. The Peppermint Shrimp went crazy on it. Just a thought.

  10. I have kept blackworms and fed blackworms. However, I have never cultured them. From what I have read, they don't seem hard to culture. ALL of my fish love them and have been really healthy. I alternate feeding my SW tank PE Mysis and live blackworms. Those fish gobble the worms right up. They usually go a bit crazy when the blackworms hit the water. None of my fish have gotten ich, even after adding new arrivals. Not sure if it's because of the blackworms or if I've just been lucky. I also feed the worms to my FW tank full of Betta Rubras, White Cloud Mountain Minnows, Ember Tetras (yes, these tiny guys try their best to slurp the worms down) and glass hatchetfish. I keep the worms in a small tray in my fridge and just change their water each day. I have had the worms last for weeks at a time.

  11. I had two of these guys some years ago. If you feed them ghost shrimp, make sure to gut-feed the shrimp something nutritious before you feed the fish. Ghost shrimp don't have a lot to them and it would be great for the fuzzies to get more out of their meals. Many die from malnutrition - not starvation. I learned this the hard way... My guys ate wonderfully, but we fed them ghost shrimp right out of the bag. They did great for a while and then they just died... The fish acted normally and the tank parameters were fine. When I asked around, I was told that the fish weren't getting the nutrition they needed from just the ghost shrimp. Unfortunately, I was never able to get them trained on frozen. I hope you are able to get yours to eat frozen. smile.png Good luck! They are fun and lovely fish!

I have included a photo of one of my original fuzzy dwarves. I miss them SO much.

  12. how's the fish doing?

The oscar is coming around. Each day, he gets friendlier and friendlier. He hasn't eaten yet, but showed a small bit of interest in eating last night. I'm going to be hopeful that he'll start eating soon. My husband is going to pick up some earthworms for him today to see if that will entice the fish eat.

If your interested In a non drilled 40 I have one with the overflow and sump, stand and all. Let me know

Thank you for letting me know about your tank. However, I sincerely want to find a tank that is drilled to make things simpler. :)

  13. I have a 100 gallon long that I'm trying to sell it has two drilled overflows and a 20 gal sump, also has a mag9.5 pump.. The canopy has 4 48" t5 bulbs but the fittings for the bulbs need to be replaced they work if you turn the bulbs just right..my wife is asking 450 for it.. 18.5Wx72.5Lx20.5T tank dimensions not including the stand and canopy in the measurements..

Thank you for letting me know. I'm afraid I am not able to spend that much for a set-up, even though it would be awesome!

I have a 40breeder; drilled for 2 drain and one return, on a custom all red stand, let me know if you are interested and i can send pictures.

Can you PM me your price and photos?

  14. Sad to see fish in such bad condition. We got a jaguar in last week that is in really bad shape as well. Best of luck to you. Sent you a pm.

Sorry to hear about the Jaguar you got in. It seems to suck to be a large fish at times... I responded to your PM.

Is a gal tank big enough for an Oscar long term? If he gets a foot long, a three foot tank seems a little small.

Good luck getting him back to health though. I can't imagine how someone would him get into that condition.

It does, but what I'm mostly looking for is some good room to turn around in. I would look at a minimum of a 55, but those tanks are way too narrow. A 40 would be the absolute minimum because I like the width. A 75 gallon would probably be best, though. I appreciate the luck. I am still finding it hard to think about how someone could watch this happen.

  15. I rescued an oscar yesterday that has severe ammonia burns and a bad case of hole-in-the-head/lateral line disease. I set-up a temporary hospital "tank" (storage container) in my spare bathroom and started treating him. As of this morning, the fish seems to be doing better (at least breathing and activity-wise). Anyways, if he starts to recover well enough, I'd like to put him in a tank and go ahead and keep him.

Does anyone out there have a larger tank they'd like to sell? I'm looking for 40 gallons or larger (preferably tanks that are wider than a 55 gallon) that is drilled so that I can provide a large sump underneath (I hate using HOB filters). I know that Petco is having their $1 per gallon sale, but I have no idea how to drill a tank...

Here are a couple of photos of the poor guy and his temporary hospital "tank" set-up:
