  1. Thanks for the reply, Gabriel. Have you seen any coco worms at any LFS?
  2. I'd love to get some coco worms. I've learned not to buy anything without doing research. I don't see anything about them, are they OK for a 40 gal tank? Are they easy to care for?
  3. I found at least one tiny little featherduster in my green hammer. There are 3 holes in the "stem", and when it retracts it's arms when the lights are off I can see the little FD popping it's feathers out. There is either one and it pops out of random holes, or there are 2. At least I think that's what it is, unless it's something else. The feathers are only about 1/2" long and very sparse. How long does it take them to grow and fill out?
  4. Thanks, Cindy! Let everyone get what they want, and then I'll choose from what's left. I'm sure you'll have more eventually, and others will have some, too. No rush, Andrew, I'm in no hurry.
  5. So how do you go about hatching brine shrimp, and separating the eggshells? Where do you buy the eggs?
  6. Cindy - I hate to barge into your conversation but I'm new to SW and I'd love to have some brightly colored mushrooms if you have any left. I have PC lights, so I'll need something that'll work with them. I'm on vacation from work this week and can come by anytime. We're planning on heading down to Fiesta TX one day this week, but I'm not sure which day yet. If you have anything left for sale, please let me know. Thanks!
  7. I think I've seen a seahorse forum on saltwaterfish.com
  8. Once a week? Well, OK, I'll cut down. And I found out the hard way it'll spit the larger pieces back out. Now I tear up pretty small pieces and it seems to swallow them without a problem. Thanks, Gabriel.Karen I've read about people keeping their pods in 2 liter bottles. How'd you get started - just buy the shrimp and phyto and pour them into the bottle? Do you have an airstone or anything in the bottle? Do you keep in in the light? How often do you have to buy more shrimp to replenish the supply? Can you just keep adding more if needed, or do you ever have to just empty the bottle and start over? I'm very interested in this idea, thanks for any info you can give me.Karen
  9. Wow! You raise your own phyto and brine, that's great. I've thought about setting up a little "pod farm", but I'm not sure exactly how to go about it and if I want it in my house. It gets so hot here I don't think I could do it in the garage. Do you have a full tank setup for the brine?
  10. I've seen a lot of posts on boards about pellets and flakes and was wondering what everyone feeds and how often. I have the yellow tang (that I'm trying to rehome), a clown and his anemone, a scooter blenny, a 6 line wrasse, and a coral beauty. I also have a med sized green hammer coral and a sea apple, a cleaner shrimp, a camel shrimp, and various snails and hermit crabs. I feed them every evening with a combination of 2 or 3 of these: frozen mysis cubes, frozen squid, frozen spirulina cubes, frozen whole krill, frozen oyster eggs (for the blenny), and liquid Micro-vert. I hand feed the anemone pieces of the krill or squid every day. Do I need to add in some pellets or flakes for more nutrition? What should I feed the sea apple? The LFS I where I bought it assured me it would be fine with what I already feed, but then they failed to mention any of the warnings that are all over the net about the apple and it's "chemicals". And, yes, I know I should have researched it before buying it, but I didn't.

    hello all

Are you the one with the lip rings? If so, I'm the lady that comes in every week or so just to check out what you have. You were feeding the lionfish for me the other day, you tried to feed the rhino looking fish but he wasn't interested. I think I had my 12 yr old daughter with me......anyway, I'm fairly new here myself, but welcome!
  12. How's the horseshoe crab doing?
  13. I'm needing to rehome the tang that I adopted about 2 monts ago. She (he?) eats well - eats anything I put in the tank from mysis shrimp to spirulina to marine algae sheets. She's beautiful and we've really enjoyed her, however my tank is only 40 gal. I'd like to get a small piece of PC compatible coral in trade, like maybe a piece of frogspawn or something colorful.
  14. I'm looking for a good powerhead to mix up new water in a trashcan. I don't care what it looks like as long as it works (translation: looking for something cheap) . I'm in Georgetown, so I'm hoping to find something on the north side. Thanks!
  15. Hey, Texan and fellow Georgetonian! Where in GT are you? I'm just off of Leander Rd & IH 35, in San Gabriel Heights. Has the river receeded any? It sure is beautiful out there now.
  16. I luv the little guy, but I'd prefer that he stick to cleaning the fish. ) 300 posts! Wow, what a milestone! Ever wonder what you talked about for all those posts?
  17. No kidding! I know I won't be sticking that arm in there for awhile. I'm trying to make my clam happy, and I was following the other thread. He moved his up higher, so I did, too. Then this morning I read where he put it where it wouldn't get quite so much light, so that's what I was doing. But that darned cleaner shrimp was trying to get me the whole time.
  18. I don't know what that is. I'm new to SW. But I did buy a clam and some corals a ocuple of days ago, so I suppose there could have been a hijacker, but it would have to be small and hard to see as I haven't seen anything unusual.
  19. Where is everyone? I'm in Georgetown, but not near any creeks, thankfully. The San Gabriel River is way out of control. It winds through the back end of my subdivision, and as soon as it stops raining I'm going to walk down and check it out. I think the homes that overlook it are built high enough so that they won't flood.
  20. I stupidly trained my cleaner shrimp to take food from my fingers. It's fun, but now every time I put my hand in the tank he comes running. About 15 minutes ago I was doing some minor rearranging and something stung my arm. I have an anemone, but I wasn't near it. The only thing near my arm was the cleaner shrimp. it still stings like crazy (I've been running cold water on it). There's a quarter sized red spot with a bunch of tiny bumps on it.
  21. I think you're right on that. When I turn off the white lights and just burn the actinics, it's very green. Is there anyway to "green it up" a bit?
  22. Got my lights in the other day (PC, dual 65W, dual actinics) and bought my first corl - a 6" piece of rock covered in green star polyps. They didn't look bright green at the store, but they were green. But when I put them in my tank, they look brown. My tank is 24" tall, and the lights are about 3" above the tank. I put the GSP on the bottom of the tank., so they're about 2' from the lights. I leave the lights on about 10 hours per day. Should I move them closer to the lights?
  23. Any news on the elegance? My lights are here, and I'm ready to start shopping!
  24. Last week I did a water change with RO water that I had mixed in a trashcan with salt & a buffer. I had about 1 gallon left over.I had a powerhead in there for a day or so, but then realized it's too small and doesn't really do any good. It's been in my house in my laundry room for the last week, covered with a towel draped over the top of the trashcan. It averages 75-78 inside my home. Can I still use it, or does it "go bad" after awhile with no powerhead for movement?
  25. Great! I'm in Georgetown, email me for directions @ [email protected]. He seems very partial to spirulina cubes. I defrost them and cut them in half and drop them in every other day. He'll eat both pieces in no time.
