  1. Great thread, wish I was there to see the progress but from the pics it looks like it is coming along.
  2. I have a pair of black clowns I need to sell before I go to Chicago next week (need them gone before Friday the 6th). I bought these from a member here on ARC and they have been great, and I am only asking for $50 for the pair. This is how much I paid for them which was a good deal. For pictures look in my gallery and you will see them, PM if you have any questions. Thanks
  3. I'm interested in the set-up, any way possible to post or send me some pics
  4. Interested in tank, stand, canopy but some pics would greatly help. Any luck on getting any?
  5. Would you have a picture you could post or send to me?
  6. Looks great and sound like a great project. I am interested in some of the details: where did you get the heat sinks, what type of LEDs, how are you controlling them?
  7. Well I bought the skimmer used and it does not appear to be the problem or main contributor, but rather the HOB Marineland filter creating most of the bubbles. The filter is new though, so maybe that could be a contributing factor. Thanks for the input.
  8. So I have set up my tank recently and due to the fact the piece of furniture I am using doesn't have and enclosed cabinet I am using HOB Marineland Emperor 280 Filter and a CPR BakPak 2 protein skimmer. Well, the Marineland HOB filter is creating air bubbles from the dropping of the water and despite how full the water level it. I have tried putting more filter media, but that has the opposite effect by causing water to become to full inside and in return water will come out of the side where the intake is. So my question would be if anyone has had experience with this and knows how to solve the issue, or if using a canister filter would be the best option and eliminate the air bubbles?
  9. Thanks to everyone for the replies. I did add 3 turbos snails and some dwarf blue leg hermits. They have already started going to town on the hair algae in the tank. I have heard and am learning patience, patience, patience, but I also am attempting to keep the no fish aquarium at least looking somewhat presentable in the living room. Someone might come over and thing I am growing drugs in the thing with all the green stuff (j/k). I am also monitoring on a daily, every other day the water quality to ensure all is well and continue to see 0 on ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate. Also, have 8.0 PH and good calcium/alk levels. I am going to let the snails/hermits do some work for a bit, then will look at adding a sand sifter of some sort cause these things poop a lot. Thanks for everyone's input and I will continue to post updates/progress as time goes on.
  10. Thanks for the responses! Just a little more background of the tank I did use a combination of live/dead sand and used 40lbs of live rock that I received from individuals who had established tanks and were downgrading. I did read that a "full" clean-up crew should be an ongoing addition as the tank gets more and more established, and when thinking of adding some now it would only be a couple snails. Thanks for the advice on the lighting. I had it on to hopefully keep what coralline algae already established on the rocks alive. Should I use just atinics until cycle has completed? I have a Coralife HO T5 Lunar set-up (two 10k, two atinic, two Lunar Leds)? Last, I did add a thing of phosguard into the filters to ensure phosphate levels are kept very low, hopefully this is a good thing/idea?
  11. Hi everyone- I am new to this and I have just set-up my aquarium one week ago. Well I have noticed today that algae is starting to grow on my live rock and I am wondering if I can add a clean up crew to keep it in check. I have been testing daily and for the past4 days all levels are doing well (ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate all at 0). I have been running the lights at 10 hours a day so maybe I should stop that? I am just afraid that by the time a couple of weeks passes I am going to end up with a full tank of algae. Any help?
  12. Thank you for the welcome! I have the tank now set-up and just waiting for it to be ready for some livestock. Here is a picture update: I guess it will be little while before putting anything into the tank, but question for everyone. Should I start with a "cleaner crew" and if so what are your recommended "teams" for my 40 gallon?
  13. Thank you, and just noticed I misspelled a simple hello. Will try to figure out how to edit and correct it.
  14. Hi everyone, I am new to the site AND new to salt tanks. I have had a fresh in the past, but decided to go salt this time as I think it will have greater satisfaction. I have just completed the set-up yesterday and now letting the tank cycle. In case your interested here is the set-up I have: I am going sump-less as the stand the misses wanted was a decorative cube shelf (cubes for baskets, meaning no cabinet) I have a 40 gallon tall tank, so it is only about 12 1/2" depth but much taller than a breeder tank Two Marineland Emperor 280 filters (only have 2 because I got on used, thought it didn't work, bought a new one, well they both work so i put both on) CPR HOB protein skimmer Coralife HO T5 Lunar (2 10K bulbs, 2 Actinic bulbs, 2 lunar LEDS) About 40lbs of live rock About 1-1 1/2" sand bed Tank heater (not actually installed yet) I want to create a reef tank starting out with of course clown fish for the daughter who wants a "nemo" but then I am not sure what else will go in. I look forward to the start of this new hobby, and have discovered that patience is needed, so maybe this will help me build my skills as I am currently not the best with "waiting." And if anyone has great advice (which I'm sure everyone does) I am a rookie and trying to soak all this information up. Pointers & Tips welcome.
