i have witnessed this as well.I'll agree that if it dies you will see a flat round shell (dime/penny size) revealed in the center of its back.

only like $15 at RCA if i remember correctly.

can they really live on frozen mysis or must they have pods?
how do i start a pod population in my tank? in the display or refugium and let them get sucked into the main?

I have always loved the look of this fish and am considering getting one.. does anyone have any experience with these. so far i have heard that:
1. only reef safe as a Juvenal
2. highly prone to disease
if these two issues are as severe as some say i don't think i need one.. but i want to hear if one has worked out for you.

the sand : yeah it came with the live rock i bought, i am unsure if i like it or not.. the black rocks are a little large i hope they settle to the bottom in time.. they seem to have done this already some.
Overflow : i now have a stand pipe coming off they hole and a strainer over the top. also i took a peice of 1/4" stiff water line (like the stuff used in a DO/DI system) and shoved it down the overflow and left about 1/2" standing above the water line. this has COMPLETELY silenced the system... loving it.
thank you by the way for the input.

you can always set the light strait on the rim of the tank diagonally till your foot gets there.. just be careful not to bump the protruding side when you walk by.

so a while back i bought a 40B tank from petco during the $1 per gallon sale (sump) and one from another member (display) and here is what i have done with it!
painted the display and drilled it using borrowed bits from a member. Thanks again!
for the fittings i went to tractor supply and found high quality bulkhead fittings. 2 - 3/4" returns and one 1.5" overflow.
RCA for the lock line i used 1/2 inch and reducers here. i plumbed everything with 3/4" spa flex just in case i need more flow in the future.
the live rock and sand i got from a member as well. thanks for the great deal!
older worn out mag9 pump seems to be perfect with 2' of extra hose on the return to "de-tune" it a bit.
i ordered a 4X39w 36" t5ho fixture from aquatraders and have been really pleased with it so far. time will be the tell as to rather or not it is truly suffecient. but for 78 shipped with bulbs and LED moonlights i cant complain.
150w heater off craigslist
CPR backpack skimmer i got from a member. currently on display tank because i didn't have enough water mixed up to put it on the sump yet.
2 - 750 GPH Koralia Evolution also off a member. (cant make this unbold) sorry ??
Please give me any pointers or suggestions or comments i really need to do something with the left side of the aquascape ideas?
i know i still need to put a standpipe and screen on the overflow and this will be done tomorrow. still researching the dimensions of an overflow box.
I have attached pics of both daylight bulbs only and daylight/actinic for purposes of showing the aquatraders light.

I am with medi on this one..
you can very easily drill a half full tank.
just make sure your pumps and or skimmer is off.
-
put me in line for all of them if they fall through.

update-
I took some water to RCA to get tested.
while my my home hydrometer was reading .0025 after testing at RCA i was at .0032!!!
Also my ALK test kit was bunk. my readings per RCA are spot on on everything else.
i am surprised that the GSP was the only thing that wasn't happy.
i adjusted the salt and bought a new ALK kit.
since then the shrooms that weren't thriving are going crazy as are my zoa's! they are spreading like crazy.
however the DSP didn't make it.
lesson learned: out of all the money you spend on this hobby spend 45 on a refractometer and don't waste your cash on a petsmart "reef master" test kit unless you know how old it is.. support your LFS.
cheers.

sweet setup!!
keep the pics coming!
-
pics would be good or at least the type of overflow you have.

their site is down for maintenance for a few days. but http://www.aquatraders.com/. i just ordered a t5ho 4 bulb 36" for $78 free shipping and it has moon lights and 4 new bulbs.
I get it this thursday. i will be making a "review"post . it might be a total peice of crap but it might be worth a shot. i think you can get a 18" halide with a t5 and moonlights for $100!

I have a fish/critter trap a friend gave me it is 3" in diameter and about 10" long.
there is a screw on cap on one end for the bait with tiny holes to get the scent into the catch chamber.
on the other end is a sliding trap door that you trigger with fishing line.
it is completely clear plastic.
i will post a pic tomorrow.
anyway it is available for anyone on here to use provided you don't give me the "I'm going to steal your **** vibe."
PM me if you need it. it will send a message to my phone instantly, in the unlikely event i am not on here browsing already.
CHeers!
