  1. folks, thanks for your help! That is what a good reef club does for each other!

That said, I am well aware of the downfalls of these beautiful critters as I have worked in the industry for a long time. I have separated about 100 or so asterinas into my refugium for safe reproduction in hopes to find a harlequin. There are still many, many, many left in the display but those will dwindle quickly. I personally dont mind feeding them starfish since that is their natural diet and I am keeping these inhabitants in a completely UN-natural environment. I will also be collecting chocolate chip starfish when I see them available at reasonable prices to throw in the fuge as well.

Thanks again. I am leaving the house now to head North to find my shrimpie(s) now.

  2. Hello folks, I have a real nice Blue Tang up for trade. I am trying to find something equally as colorful and active to trade for according to the rules from the boss (WIFE). The reason I am getting rid of him is because he is simply getting too big for my crowded 75 gallon. The only way I will trade is if the fish is EATING and is healthy since mine eats EVERYTHING and is extremely healthy. Might be interested in a Lamarks angel fish, established wrasse pair, or other cool fish.

    Thanks,

    Kris

  3. Hello folks, before I moved here from DFW area I bought about 24' worth of aquarium trim (the plastic stuff that surrounds your tank on top and bottom) that cost me around $40.00. It is cut into 2 6' pieces and 2 4' pices. I need to get close to what I paid but realize that I am going to take a loss here. It is black in color and is sometimes hard to come by locally.

I'd take $25.00 for all of it just to get it out of my garage.

  4. I have this coral that from what I can guess is an enchinopora based on a consensus here http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthre...hreadid=1118356. The piece is damaged on one side but the living tissue is doing fine and is not receding any more. The injury was caused by a torch coral spending the night on top of the enchinopora stinging the poor thing. The living tissue is still very large and the piece has a stick like apendage for placement in your live rock. The piece is about half softball sized and is really a unique peice. I'm not quite sure what I would want in trade but I'll take offers.

    Picture in thread mentioned above.

  5. Okie dokie folks, I have a couple different types of zoanthids up for trade. This post is about my reverse gorilla nipple zoas. They are brown with orange centers. The centers glow nicely under actinics and they grow nicely. The colony I have available is about 3" round and kind of dome shaped. It has about 60-70 polyps on it. I cannot frag this as it will ruin the character of this little piece. Interested in any other colorful zoas, ricordia, serpent star (reef safe type), or cash. If sold outright I want $25.00 for the colony. Anybody wanna swap???

now, let me see if I can find a picture......

  6. I'm new to this hobby and I'm having a really hard time finding nice zoas in austin. I would love to buy a small frag of your

colony or can trade 10 polyps or so from a pretty cool zoa I've got in my tank. Let me know if you're interested.

I just noticed this post. Do you have a picture of the zoas you are speaking of?

  7. these are challenging to raise though since they require living rotifers as first food. If you have a system set aside for raising and breeding rotifers you may have a chance if you can figure out a way to keep other fish away while feeding the new fry.

  8. We just moved back and with the lack of reef stores down south I took a ride over to the Austin Aqua Dome. I must say that I was very happy with selection as well as overall health of livestock. The staff was friendly and helpful although a bit hard to find for a second. I suggest tht if you havent been in a while you should go check them out. Their prices are a nice break from DFW pricing I am used to.

  9. I got mine from Melev and I highly suggest getting one through him. I love mine and it is as complet a kit as they come. If you order one through him, please tell him that I sent you as there is a rewards program for references.

  10. Hello folks,

I must say that the past few days have been very busy as I am vigorously interviewing for jobs. For those that I am late on PMs back, Im sorry. Anyway I recently suggested that another member of this board use their H.O.B power filter as a sort of mini refugium. I will now take a second and share my thoughts on this theory a bit.

I personally use a system in which my display tank is quite literally my filtration. I have a 30 gallon sump that is divided into 3 chambers. The first chamber is the water entering the sump, the second is a mini fuge that includes ROCK and macro (all died in move). And the third is the return to the tank. It is not fancy but it is very efficient and its efficiency is the surface area that is crucial to host the bacterial cultures needed to de-nytrify the systems water.. My display filtration employs about 120lbs of fiji and marshal live rock, a very shallow sand/crushed coral bed, 3 maxijet 1200's, a modified maxijet 900, the return pump (Mag9.5) and a maxijet 1200 used to power my Remora skimmer. I will continue to add flow as needed; but the idea is that the more flow I can get over more rock and substrate(without adversly affecting corals by direct flow), the more oxygen rich the environment producing thriving colonies of various types of denytrifying bacterias.

    With your H.O.B power filters,

It is now proven knowledge in the hobby that any sort of filter "pad" or floss material is a Nitrate factory. If you keep a reef like I do, you want to eliminate ALL sources of nitrate to the best of your ability and by removing the filter media packs which are usually covered in floss material, you will eliminate that much more nitrate. By replacing the filter media pads with CRUSHED LIVE ROCK you will provide a nice safe place for copeopods to reproduce as well as a really nice place for extra biology. I use a carbon filled NYLON filter sock once a month or so to polish the water by simply placing it on top of my little live rock refugium and thus in direct path of flow to the filters return to your tank. The slow flow is not a problem in this style set up because it is constant and steady and oxygen rich. You may be able to find mini clamp on pc lights if you find yourself to be watchful enough to find them at a WalMart or Home Depot.

With my thoughts on filtration I must say that it is extremely important in my opinion that bi-monthly water changes of at least %10 is a must. I will now show you some recent pictures of my 75 gallon reef. We recently moved to Kyle from Arlington and all I lost was my macro algae (donations accepted at the meeting if anyone feels generous) Swimming inhabitants include:

    Snowflake Moray a.k.a. "Eely"

    Lawn mower blenny a.k.a. "Lenny"

Regal Blue Tang a.k.a. "Dori-Dori" (How'd you guess?? LOL)

Green Reef chromis a.k.a. " Nope, no name; he's just a chromis :(

    Marine Betta a.k.a. "Midnight"

Blue throat trigger : Name not yet released. New fish and need to find suitable name

Ocellaris Clown Pr. a.k.a. "Frick and Frack"

    Psychedelic mandarin a.k.a "swirly"

Enjoy and dont be too critical as it is not finished and it was recently moved. Also, you will notice that I am having a slight algae outbreak in the front left side due to a brief rise in nitrates after the move. Should be gone soon.

  11. I have an Emperor power filter with a bio wheel and a protein skimmer on my 40 gal tank. I change the filter media every 3 weeks or so. Every couple of days I empty the skimmer and wash out the top part. Should I be taking the filter and skimmer off of the tank and cleaning them out?

My ammonia and nitrites are perfect. My nitrates have always been slightly high (at 10 or so), but lately they've spiked up to 40. I'm guilty of overfeeding, so I'm cutting back and doing more frequent water changes until they stabilize.

DO NOT USE TAP WATER.....I promise you will be more than sorry you did. Replace the filter pads in them with live rock rubble and essentially create a H.O.B. copeopod fuge while still filtering. If you have questions please pm me as I can lead you through the biology and ideology behind this method. NEVER replace the Bio wheel. Simply scrub it off well with removed tank water when you do a water change.

  12. Bay, this sounds like an interesting trade offer. It is late now so I will call you sometime tomorrow.

This is not available anymore. I have tentative arrangements to meet with Bay on his trade offer. I will however be propagating these and will have some available again soon. If you are interested in further smaller "Shermies" PM me with your request and I will get back to you in order received as they become available.

  13. The last 2 yrs. we've tried Oceanic and we had no problems. This month we're trying TM and we are putting it to the test. We'll see how it turns out with coral growth since we add some SPS to the tank. Wish me Luck ^_^ .

    Thanks,

    Cindy

I switched from TM to Red Sea Coral Pro this month and so far so good but I used TM for years and years before that with nothing but the best results so the new stuff has to prove its worth.

  14. I was looking through the forums sponsors and noticed that there are none that I could tell. Is this really the case? Does anyone know where I might be able to locate a quality shop down south or am I going to have to drive? I like to give patronage to LFS shops that know what they are doing but I suppose that if I must, I will result to online ordering which I detest.

    Anybody??

  15. Anybody have anything up for trade for a colony of about 100-125 or so polyps that measures about 3" x 2.5"? These grow quickly and are stunning. Might be interested in the following:

*Other identifiable and similarly sought after zoas

    *Acans

    *Blastos

    *Lobos

    *Scolymia

Here is a pic of the colony.
