I thought I would post the progress of our classroom tank and also take a moment to thank all of the amazing ARCers who donated things to help make it a better tank. Thanks to Robb in Austin for Macro Algae and Frogspawn, Mel in Elgin for Candy Cane coral and Kenya Tree coral, JeffT for Anthelia and Purple Monti Cap, and mcallahan for GSP. Thank you all of you for the great additions!
The first picture is our tank about 2 hours after I set it up and added substrate and salt water. 12-3-10. Live rock was added about a week later and then the tank just sat until January.
The next one was taken on 2-14-11.
This one was after I "lost" my frogspawn and had to take most of the rock out; I rearranged it when it went back in. It is still pretty cloudy in the picture. It seems that my frogspawn does not like the plugs that I put it on, it kept on coming off after awhile. I used super glue gel, but maybe I did something incorrectly. The other plugs that I did are still doing well. Anyway, the little guy has moved in under a ledge off to the right of the tank in this picture. A couple of days ago it relocated itself to the middle of the tank under all of the rocks. sigh. I can get a glimpse of it, but cannot reach it. I will keep an eye on it and get it out when I move the tank in a couple of weeks. 4-11-11.
This one was taken on 4-25-11.

Thanks! The students and I were glad to read your reply.

Sorry about another question, but I was given two tiny Kenya tree corals and one of them is missing. Do damselfish eat tree corals? Or might it have just decided to relocate? I have two Bowtie Damselfish, about 2" long each.

I wanted to thank people for their generosity again. I have been able to get with Robb in Austin and JeffT so far and the coral and macroalgae are just wonderful! The students can hardly contain themselves and run straight to the tanks when they arrive in my classroom. Thank you again!

I wonder how long it is....that's just amazing.

Thank you, all four of you, for your generosity!!! I have been given five things by you and know that they will look great as they grow. Iam going to get them into my tank over the next few days as they are picked up. Then I will wait and see how everyone in there does. I think the main thing I have learned on here is to be patient, so that is my agenda for the next couple of months.
Thanks again.

I have sent PMs to Mcallahan, Robb, Mel and Jeff.

I've got some macro algae I can donate if you want to setup a refugium or macro only tank.
Hi Robb! Thank you for your offer. I have a section in the back of my tank that the nanocube people say can be used as a refugium with a place for macro algae. I would appreciate it very much! I will send you a PM about when you want to get together. Thanks!

I could frag you a few heads of one of my candy canes.
Hi Mel. Thank you!! And since we are both in Elgin, I won't have to drive very far. How do you want to do this?

Thank you so much! How would you like to arrange pickup? In case you are wondering, I am teaching the students to keep a chart of our water tests and any water changes or additions. They take turns doing the different tests and are each writing about one of the creatures living in the tank. I will be sure to get a photo to you of the tank with the GSP in it.

I am running a classroom tank and wondering if anyone has any small things that they do not want or would be willing to donate that might go in the tank. It has been up and running for 6 months now with no problems (knock on wood:) ). Here is what I have:
28g Nano cube
20lbs live rock
2 damselfish
1 kenya tree coral
1 finger leather
5 turbo snails
about 30 heads of zoanthids
7 red mushrooms
8 brown button polyps
and a bristleworm that I have seen in the rocks
I didn't know if anyone might have frags or singles of other mushrooms, zoanthids, GSP, or something else that might go well in here. Small things are wonderful because our unit will stretch over a several year period and the students can watch everything grow. This is a class that meets with me throughout elementary school.
Thanks for you time.

Thank you all for the welcome! I am a teacher who is learning about reefkeeping along with my students this year. We purchased a 28g nanocube last spring and have slowly gotten it up and running this school year. Put in water then substrate in October, live rock in December, some zoanthids, mushrooms and a kenya tree coral in January. We added 2 donated bowtie damselfish about a month ago and purchased a devils hand leather a couple of weeks ago. Now we are leaving it alone again. We will keep the tank at my home this summer and bring it back to the classroom in August. I think this is safest as the school will have the a/c off all summer and the temps will get REALLY hot.
The students and I are having a blast watching the tank and it's inhabitants! I am teaching everyone how to do water tests and log it as well as how to take photographs for our marine wall.

Sorry to use my second post to ask an ID question, but I only just found this today and am wondering what it is.
Thanks for looking, Duncan7

This is my first posting, but I have been lurking and trying to learn about reefkeeping for the past several months. I have a 28g nanocube and have been taking it very slowly. Not much else to tell right now.

candy cane coral--also several bunches for the same reason
