I agree with James on the smaller tanks dosing can be avoided by regular water changes.I do 5 gal every Sunday morning. I mix my own saltwater and use (IMO) good salt which replenishes what is taken out.
-
Probably whatever is easiest at first. I sure like the look of zoas though
I have quite a few zoas in my BC 29 and they are doing really well with no dosing at all.

Buy dead rock, it is cheaper and comes with no unwanted hitchhikers and critters.

Mark had a really good PDF along with the video he did on test kits. I am not sure if it was part of the Hanna video or a different one. I printed it out and keep it on my workbench. In the pdf he has test kit recommendations as well as levels and explanations on what the different levels mean.

+1 for the one BRS sells. It has auto temp correction. Have no complaints with it. Just RTFM when you get it. I had trouble calibrating it because I did not RTFM.

Welcome to the group! Glad to have you.
I currently have a BC29, but I am building a 125g. I didn't realize the budget required either. It adds up quick! Mark does an awesome job on the videos and information he puts out.
Keep reading and be patient. Ping me if you have any questions.

I saw a post on how to edit my forum topic title but can not find it now. Can someone enlighten me on how to edit the topic title on things i started? Thanks

IME, fish can go three days without feeding with no issue. If you do feed, go light on the feeding. 1/4 - 1/2 of what you regularly feed.
-
I did not feed and actually unplugged all my lights including the moonlights.

I have a BC 29 that got me started in the hobby about 7 months ago. Fell in love with fish and corals so I decided to go bigger. I learned a lot of expensive lessons on the biocube. Hopefully I will not make the same mistakes.
I bought a 125 reef ready and my friend helped me build the stand. So far I have
!25g Tank 72x18x22
Skeleton stand
Reef Dynamics INS180 skimmer
Eheim 1262 return
Koralia Mag 8
Assorted plumbing parts and bulkheads
Finnex Titanium heater
Dr. Tim's Aquatics One and Only Reef Pure
Coralife Salt
For lights I am going to go with 36" 8x39 T5 retrofits and led stunners for moonlights (Aquadome). Getting my dry rock, sump and dry sand from Prof. With the sump/refugium, rock and sand, I should be somewhere around 175 gallons if I did the math correctly. Depending on where the tank is on nitrates and phosphates after the cycle, I may add a phosban reactor.
I plan on finishing out the stand with oak plywood with the stain of my wife's choice. I am on hold for the next two weeks as I have family in town, but hope to be wet by the second week of April.
Anyone see anything I am missing or might want to consider adding?
Thanks to everyone that is a part of ARC. I have learned a lot from the forum posts!
Will try to update as I progress if anyone is interested.,

Kill it! If you do not want to use chemicals or additives get a syringe of fresh lemon juice or vinegar and shoot it up. Worked for me.

I learned my lesson the hard and expensive way on salinity. I check the LFS water and my water before I put anything in my tank now.
-
What else is in the tank? What test kits are you using?

I jut ordered an rodi chloramine unit from BRS today. Until I get it set up I get my water from the water jug on mays by the snow cone place. The water there ia as good as the fish stores on TDS. 7ppm when I measured the last batch I got compared to 365ppm coming out of my faucet. If you use the self service outside it ia cheaper bit it only takes $1 bills and coins.
