Trap wont work devil damsel is large.
Sure it will. I have caught a couple of tangs in similar traps. If the fish is that big, use a 2-liter or 3-liter bottle instead. Cut the top off to widen the opening. Should work fine. I've caught about 5 different fish this way. Just attach some hose or twine to the bottle (I used zip ties) and keep a close eye on it. When the fish goes all the way in after the food, quickly pull the trap out. Works like a charm.

The subject is asking for advice on a HOB overflow so I wanted to throw in my two cents (which is about what my advice is worth). I've always been scared to use them. I know many people use them but they've always scared me. It seems like they would clog or leak a lot easier. Also, I don't think they look as good as an internal overflow. If you're feeling brave, you can get an overflow kit from glass-holes.com and drill your tank. I've drilled a couple tanks and it wasn't too bad. Just make sure your tank is not tempered before you do it.

Ramsey, PM rchavez. He uses vodka for carbon dosing and supplements with Zeo stuff. Works great for him!
I will do that. Thank you!

I'd have to say even though Feldman's research did show the basic concept could be supported after reading his research it's just not worth bothering with. The control samples in his research showed similar results as the treated samples and when a treated tank was monitored no changes could be detected.
In the conclusion he mentioned that carbon dosing does work. I already run a biopellet reactor and it's well worth it. I constantly battled high nitrates and phosphates in my tank before and they been close to 0 the whole time I've run biopellets. I would not run an SPS tank without them. My question is less about biopellets, which I'm a firm believer in, and more about using Zeovit supplements. I'm just not ure which to use or to stay away from (if any at all) since I'm using biopellets and not Zeovit rocks. I'd like to start using the Zeovit stuff since I've seen so many good results online with coral growth and coloration.
Thanks for the info though. I do understand some of the concerns but I have to go with what I've seen first hand with carbon dosing. I will say that it would be overkill for a non-SPS tank.

Ramsey, normally you'd be fine but RCA said it wasn't all shipped. Give them a call first. I bet they would give you some of theirs to get you what you needed.
That's cool. I'll give them a call Tuesday. It's no big deal if I have to wait. I still have about 3/4 of a bucket of salt left which should last me a while. I just wanted to stock up while the gettin's good.
Thanks for putting this together!

I'm getting a custom sump made in the near future based off of this one:
The only difference is mine won't be as fancy with the lids and all, and instead will have 6 filter sock holders and not 3. I really like how this design allows you run more than just one filter sock per drain line and allows the water to run over the top of them. The one pictured is made by My Reef Creations. They're very proud of their sumps though which is why I'm having someone build one.

bump!
Anyone? I'd be happy with some Zeoheads chiming in.

I run a Nextreef reactor for GAC and a Nextreef reactor for biopellets. I have my ATO unit hooked up to a Geo kalk reactor. I was dosing two-part via a dosing pump but switched to kalk. Once or twice a week I dose Aquavitro fuel and once a week I dose Tech-M magnesium. I need a more accurate test kit to know for sure but I may have a small amount of phosphates and if that's the case, I'll probably get another reactor for GFO. I know that other people running biopellets have had problem with getting rid of all traces of phosphates. I should note that my nitrates are 0 and have been since I've started using biopellets. I can't recommend them enough.

I wasn't able to go by there Friday but plan on going Monday. I'm not too late am I?

Thanks for that, it's good to know there's some science behind carbon dosing. I've been running biopellets for a while now and I don't think I'd ever run a tank without them. I've had no detectable nitrated and phosphates the entire time I've ran them. SPS seem to benefit the most. Most LPS and softies that I've seen actually do slightly worse with the BP's. I'm curious about using some of the Zeovit supplements in addition to the BP's and skip using the zeolite media, since BP's should provide the fuel for bacteria growth.

Is anybody doing this? I've read about some people that are but thought I'd see if anyone local has done this. I'm already running biopellets but wanted to start using some of the zeovit stuff as well.

I've had a huge aiptasia problem up until recently. I tried aiptasia-x, similar products and using lemon juice and a syringe worked best for me. I didn't try using kalk though. I also tried berghia nudi's two different times and didn't have any luck with them. I think since I had a few peppermint shrimp in there, the peps ate the nudi's. I'd be very careful trying them if you have a peppermint shrimp in there since the nudi's are pretty expensive.
What's worked best for me is wild caught peppermint shrimp from Port Aransas. I went out there a couple months ago and caught about 40-50 and threw them in my tank. I went from having HUNDREDS of aiptasia to having about 5 larger ones that I can see. I also cut down on feeding some when I added them to make sure they were hungry. Of course, I've tried peps before and didn't have any luck so I'm not sure why they're working so well (cutting down on feeding maybe?). Anyway, good luck! I know how annoying a frustrating they can be.

I'm down for two buckets of the pro. I just started working up the road from them so it'll work out nicely.

There's an ongoing thread on nano-reef.com talking about using hydrogen peroxide to kill it.

http://reefbuilders.com/2010/03/29/uses-for-hydrogen-peroxide-in-the-aquarium-algae-removal/
I've not tried this and it still seems somewhat experimental but people have had success with it.

If you're just sitting up the tank, make sure you get rid of them for good before you start stocking it. Trust me, they can be very difficult to get rid of. Also, you may want to try Berghia Nudibranches.

Nope, they haven't been ordered yet. I actually found someone that will do $10 for each Nudi with free shipping over 40. He'll separate and label everything in individual bags and send everyone a transfer pipette. He'll also throw in free egg strands for anyone ordering more than 5. We're at 30 so I need someone that wants another 10. Let me know if you're interested.

people need to stop using these forums for their own vindictive purposes. Geez, he didn't answer your second e-mail, so you want to try and ruin his business?
This is why companies are starting to sue people who resort to libelous, forum-bashing.
First, I'm not using the forums for those purposes. I feel like people should know. What if I said nothing and someone else on ARC got treated this way tomorrow? I'd feel a little guilty for not giving a warning.
Posting negative feedback on their support on a LOCAL reef forum is hardly trying to ruin their business. I didn't blast it all over the internet.
You may not have a problem getting bad service and keep your experience to yourself not warning others. This just not my style. I provide a high level of service to my customers and I like to get some respect when the tables turned.
I spent $400 for a sump from them. Not responding to my emails for two weeks is just not right when I'm trying to get support on something I spent a great deal of money on.
On a another note, I did speak with him via email further about the situation and though I'll still likely never buy from them, he did make a small effort to try and smooth things over. It wasn't much but it was something. Just wanted to throw that out there to be fair.

BIGBIRD,
This is a pretty strong indication of their customer service. I feel like people that aren't on MAAST have the right to know what they may or may not receive if they need to contact them. You know, just bad customer service is one thing, but when the owner of a popular company responds to a complaint about their service by insulting their customer and acting like he wants to fight, people should know about that. I tried to handle it reasonably. I think my post was reasonable and it was on MAAST, not RC. I respect your opinion but in the case I feel that people should know how I was treated so they know what experience they may have from them. If you've had a good experience with them, I'm happy for you. For me, this has been BY FAR the worst service experience I've ever had.

If any of you are thinking about buying anything made by PM, please look carefully at this thread:

I just want to make sure you all are aware of the support you might get from them if you have a problem. Please message me if you have any questions.
Mods, if this is in the wrong area, please feel free to move it to the appropriate section.

Also, I'd like around 10 and I have someone else interested in some so we're over half way there already!

I'm just checking to see if there'd be any interest in a Berghia group order from this place:
http://www.saltyunderground.com/pages.php?pID=23&CDpath=0
We would need to order a minimum of 20. They'd be around $10 a piece and then we'd pay for shipping as well (like $30). The cool thing is we could add whatever coral we wanted to and not pay for shipping.
Anyone want to get in on this?

I have some I can sell you. I took it out of my tank two weeks ago when the tank leaked and I don't need it in the new tank. It's currently sitting in a trashcan with a heater and some pumps. I'm in New Braunfels and I'll sell it for $2 a lb. How much are you looking for? I have probably close to 100lbs.

Glass cages build Quality

I saw a thread on RC about a week ago and someone had one of their tanks for about a year and a half and it sprung a huge leak. I'd be very careful because there was a lot of people chiming in about the quality you get. Here's the thread:
