I’ve already been warned if I go overboard again that’s it!!!!!

    .....

    ordered the Red Sea 350

    reef octopus regal 200 skimmer

reef octopus various 2 dc pump

    new apex

    2 ecotech mp-40s

    .......

For lights I plan on using radions. I’m thinking 2 xr-30s

I love it. you are building some peoples dream tanks but your taking it easy and not going overboard.

I cant wait to see what you do past the starter phase

  2. I would think just oxygen introduction alone would be beneficial. Im under the school of stability is a good thing. If running the skimmer has an effect of the chemistry of the water then you'd want to have it run as you would later down the line. whats going to happen when you add a new element? it could scale perimeters and then affect something else.

Im not versed enough to give a simplified version of the relationship between Calcium and Alkalinity but it has to do with consumption ratio of alk is greater then calc.

There is a rabbit whole of information online and some or more science-y then others depending how much you want to know.

  3. i might have missed something but why only run the skimmer 6 hours a day? i would think to run it 24/7 and put Oxygen in the tank and filter out junk. I wouldn't think starving it out would be an ideal situation or you'd end up like the dead sea an unable to support any life; nuance or desired.

As far as the drop in calc and alk is concerned what are you doing besides just water changes? something is using it up and they both need to be added back one way or another.

I don't think water changes alone will do that. Your tank is well beyond the size of anything i've ever kept but i think it would just be a simple expanse in magnitude.

edit: i was looking into your build thread since you were asking me about the C02 scrubber i was using. while it still might be a benefit if fresh air is an issue. the low Alk will affect your PH as well. If you bring that up it will help buffer. I wouldn't think 7.6 alk is bad per say. Are you more concerned its lower then it once was?

Chemistry in the tank will move around. Trying to keep it stable is the dance. Since your tank is pretty new and changing all the time i think that is going to be an effect that is just going to happen.

  4. thanks. now all i need is some pumps to get get this bad boy running.

one mag7 for the skimmer and one for my return. i have water and some rock in there cycling. just have 3 power heads and a hang on empty filter circulating the water.

sump is ready waiting on pumpage
