  1. What do you think about leaving the protein skimmer out of the equation in smaller tanks? If the tank has ample supply of biological and chemical filtration, is protein really all that much beneficial or even necassary?

    Thoughts?

  2. I'm wondering if anybody uses carbon filtration for their reef tanks? I've got a 46 gallon bowfront and am using an Eheim canister filter with only the filter pads inside. Should I be using carbon or something else as well?

  3. I've had a pair of Perculas for over a month now and up until two days ago, both were doing well. Two days ago, one of them stop eating and just hung around at the bottom by himself. This morning it started to swimming in circles. I transferred him to the QT and now he has progressed into swimming circles with more disoriented motion.

What could this be and what are my options?

  4. So this is my first experience with an ich outbreak. I lost my flame angel last night despite my efforts in setting up a quarantine tank with a copper additive. I did a 25% water change and this morning, the rest of my group.....2 true percula, 1 yellow neon goby, 5 chromis, seem to be doing well. I also raised the tank temperature from 77-78 to 80-81 degrees as I've read that this will shorten the parasites cycle thus, ridding the tank faster of them. I believe this originated from a royal gramma I bought because he seemed to be infected first and was the first to go.

Other then adding garlic to their food, what are some other types of treatment I can do that is also reef safe?

I've re-tested my tank parameters and is as follows:

    ammonia, nitrate, nitrite: 0

    pH: 8.2-8.4

    sg: 24

    salinity: 31-32

    Temp: 80-81

Any feed back is much appreciated! Oh, the tank size is a 46 gallon bowfront established early December, 2009.

    Thanks!

  5. I'm selling the original 36" light fixture with bulb that came with my tank 2 months ago. Fixture is black and was used for a week before I purchased a HO T5 system. Make me an offer or willing to trade for something...

    Thanks!

    Chris

  6. Hi everybody! I recently bought two Koralia 2 power heads about 2 months ago and have decided one will do the job.

The Koralia 2 has a flow rate of 600/hr and comes with magnetic fixture.

I'm also selling the 36" light fixture with bulb that originally came with the tank for $40.

    Thanks for looking!

    Chris
