  1. I can help Sunday at 10:00 too. I'll meet you at Shane's in RR. I'll bring a couple of buckets just in case too. Don't order extra pizza or beer for me. I think I might end up learning something and that's payment enough for me. See ya then!
  2. I'm new to this myself but I wanted to welcome you to the hobby. If you've got a min. feel free to post something about yourself in the "Welcome" topic section on this site. Good luck!
  3. Have you found anyone yet? We live in RR and could take care of it for you, though we are only 3 months into the reef hobby. Call me at 423-6912 or 255-7573. fish.gif Mark& Kim Barber
  4. Thanks for the advise everyone and for offering for me to come and see yours Joe. If I can find 5 mins that aren't booked in the next few weeks I'd like to pop by and see how your whole tank is looking. I decided to take the plunge and got two percula's on Sat. it took about a day and a half and they found the bubble tip and now are hanging out with it most of the time. i've got my fingers crossed. I plan to get maybe a Tang fairly soon and put it into the isolation tank so I can move it to the reef before the clowns start to feel like they own the place.
  5. What type of clowns do y'all recommend? When I'm buying them(2) should I choose larger more established ones or smaller ones? I know tank raised are better for the oceans. I have a bubble tip anemone that I hope they will use as a host. Also, is it okay to add them as my first fish or do they become too territorial if they are the first to take a swim? dontknow.gif
  6. She's alive and looking better than ever. blob7.gif Weird huh? Bruce at Aquatech suggests that maybe it was just going to the bathroom. Thanks for all the input!
  7. It looked somewhat better, but not normal this morning. All of the "arms" had some fluid in them but it was still sort of retracted. Something else my wife noticed last night was that it's foot had turned from sort of brownish to more of a redish color. I'll check on it when I get home and decide if I should take it back. Thanks agan for the input.
  8. Thanks for the replys. So as long as it's not sloughing, leave it alone? It might recover? It's amazing how quickly it happened. It was doing great for the first 3 days, found a place where it was happy(i thought) right away and in minutes it went south. Anything I can do to help it along?
  9. I was admiring my new Anemone when I got home today and it was totally "out" and fluffy. About 30 mins later it started to shrink and I noticed a hairlike something that seemed to be coming out from amidst it's tenacles. I assumed that it found a bit of hair algae and was eating it but it's now shrunk down to almost nothing. Is it okay? Will it inflate again? What could have caused this if it's not okay. I'm more than a little freaked!!!! HELP!!!! crybaby2.gif
  10. Thanks for your input. I decided to put in just a few snails, 3 tiny hermit crabs and 1 cleaner shrimp (hope that wasn't a mistake). I'll wait another month then add the rest of the clening crew and wait another month before doing anything else. Does that sound reasonable?
  11. I asked about Tropic Marin at Aquatek and they said that they didn't think that it was as good as it used to be when they started producing it in America instead of Russia. They recommended a salt mix that hasn't been mentioned in these discussions, Marine Mix Professional by Wiegandt GmbH in Germany. Anyone know anything about that? A small bag that mixes 25 gals of saltwater sells for $20.00 bucks. Is that higher priced than most? dontknow.gif
  12. I just set up my tank about 2 weeks ago with partially cured live rock. I've finished the curing and the tank has fully cycled and I'm set to do a 20 %water change tonight. According to some references, I'm ready to get a clean up crew this weekend but I read in another book (Reef secrets) that I should just let it run for as long as 8 weeks to three months before adding anything. Is that really necessary? What are the potential benefits? I'm anxious to get going but I'll hold off it it's really better. What are your thoughts/experiences with this? Thanks! Mark
  13. It was great to meet such a friendly and knowledgeable group of people. I feel lucky to found this group just in time for the meeting..and the brisket! Thanks again Joe for hosting. Mark
  14. My wife and I will be there and we'll bring a cooler with Iced Tea/glasses and a dessert. Our first reef tank was set up Sunday and we are now nursing uncured live rock. Sadly, It's actually pretty exciting. Mark
  15. I just played for the first time a few days ago. There is a course in Cat Hollow/Brushy Creek off 620 and O'Conner. Take O'connor off 620 at the HEB (only goes one way), turn right at the four way stop drive down a block or so and park. Course begins just off trail cacross from Cat hollow Park.
  16. Thanks for the reply. I feel better now! Mark

    Hi Everyone!

I'm new to the club, as of today. My wife and I just bought a 75 gal aquarium and have'nt even set it up yet (hopefully this weekend). So far all my reading has just helped me to develop RPS (Reefer Paranoia Syndrome). I'm a little freaked about getting that bad stuff going in our tank and feel like sterilizing everything that goes in....but I guess that would'nt work huh? .......But seriously, THUMBSPLITTERS? 18. Hi all, Can I cure my live rock in the tank that it's going to live in? How back will it smell and what are the potential problems? The guy I bought that setup from suggests doing this but i have a funny feeling about it. Tanks for any comments/experiences! Mark
