  1. Does anyone have a Mexican Turbo or three they can sell? Battling an algea outbreak and could use the muscle. Looks like the LFS are out of stock.

I picked up one of those guys - and he's about to be fired. Haven't seen them be really effective in removing the algae. I had this problem before and the Mexican Turbos were amazing!

  3. Feeling dejected. Heater exploded on Monday when I was at work. Fish are hanging in, but it looks like most my SPS is done for. Hoping my LPS hold on as well.

I hadn't checked out those filters/pads before. It might be worth running just in case..

Well, I called the manufacture, and the lad claimed there would be no sort of contamination for such a failure. Although, she didn't leave me feeling confident in her mastery of the subject, so I'm still uneasy.

I still have some inverts living (although several snails and hermits died) so hopefully that's an indication that there's no contamination.

I'll have to check out those titanium heaters for sure. I'm 4 days of water changes in, and my ORP is finally climbing and stabilizing again. Fish are still hanging in, and I see some life starting to show in my soft corals. SPS still seem pretty down and out - but I'm hoping some will survive.

I guess "shattered" isn't the right word. Somehow it blew off / popped the top of the heater (with the heater coil) off and away from the glass body.

Bummer too - was the it hardly was ever 'on'. I put the heater in during a cold snap last winter - but aside from those weeks - I really didn't NEED to run it in the tank.

Well, I had my heater running through my Apex as well. It wasn't a 'stuck on' situation, but rather it shattered in the sump. My temp was never a problem, but I had some water contamination from whatever was in the heater.

  10. Going to jinx myself here - but I feel like I finally have my new skimmer tuned in and skimming well! Been learning a lot about what affects these skimmers over the last month and just how finicky they can be!

I'll def have to follow next time (although tank has a little more cycling to do) - it was a newer Kia Soule (grey?) I believe.

  15. Came home from Vegas to find my AC is out and my tank is at 86 degrees. Not good - skimmer is off and floating some ice.

  16. i have had it with this algae! i run gfo/carbon, have highflow, 7hr light cycle, almost no sand bed. I had almost won the war on algae, gha, and many others, but now, the red slime/hair has covered the sand, and worked it's way up the rock. so miffed! i am resorting to 3 days dark. if that does not work, i am at a loss

I didn't have much SPS coral (but I did have some) and all came out fine. -- Still it's a limited variety of what I had.

I have to say, the red slime remover was my savior when I battled some bad cyano. I'd use it again. One treatment had completely knocked every bit of cyano from my tank within a day - and has stayed clean for 4 months now.

I'll try some spot feeding tonight. They are in a relatively low flow area, but I could find even lower yet in my tank. Thanks guys.

Phosphates are setting very near zero.

I would only target feed them occasionally with Brine Shrimp. After I noticed the declining size, I attempted to target feed again but it didn't seem to respond well. I do have a Flame Angel, but of all the things he grazes on he never touches the acans, and they have co-existed for 6 months before this recent event.

It was high in the water column and doing awesome. As it started to shrink, I thought the same thing and have it to the sand bed in a low light area. --- Also, unfortunatly, I don't have a magnesium test kit - maybe i'll have RCA do a test for me. All other water params are fine and my other acan is doing great.
