  1. Ah, ran out of space in the Topic Title to complete my "I will Survive" freshwater remix.

I was a member a couple of years ago (I remembered my login! yay!) Got caught up in the mortgage scandal of 2010 and had to move from a house to an apartment. But now I'm back into another house, and am setting up a new 210g tank!

I currently have a 46 gallon bowfront freshwater tank with the following:

    2x wisteria (huge)

    Equipment:

    1x 46 gallon bowfront + stand + glass top

1x ahsupply.com retrofitted 96 watt power compact light (No heater, this thing keeps my tank at 75F 24/7.

2x Aquaclear 110's with Fluval Edge filters serving as pre-filters/anti-shrimp siphon devices, sponge that comes with it, quilt batting for polishing, and ceramic rings for bio.

    1x Fluval Q2 air-pump

DIY CO2 setup with 2x 2-litter bottles as my reactors, 1x 2-litter bottle as my catch-all, and fluval bubble-counter and fluval CO2 diffuser. Oh, and Fluval CO2 monitoring kit.

So the 46g is my "current" tank, and the wifey has the 10g tank. I purchased a 210g tank (84"x24"x24") on craigslist for $300 (what a steal!). This will be my "New" tank, and the wife will get the 46g, and I'll get the 10g back as my quarantine tank. Leak tested, is flawless. Came with a horrible stand that I do not think could support the weight of the tank when even 1 gallon of water is in it. So currently I'm working on building a new stand and canopy. Once thats done, I'll order lights and maybe some more filtration...still contemplating the sump/refugium option.

The lights I'm still in the dark on. I need to find a PAR meter to make sure my plants "flourish". Anyone know where I can rent one? :-D

  2. Your rock should be fine as far as the problem you are facing. You'll end up picking up more as you get frags. You also might want to check with prof and get some "dead rock" to add to your current setup. Its a lot cheaper and will get seeded by the rest of the rock over time. For a reef I would be looking at at least 40 pounds but that's more for long term health and certainly shouldn't be killing off fish like you are seeing.

For the drip I forgot to mention, get one of the $1.99 veggie clips to hold the tube in the tank with.

For your pump you just need to know the Gallons Per Hour (GPH) and divide by the size of your tank. Recommended for soft corals/polyps is 10x water flow or higher. So your tank water is being filtered through your system 10 times per hour or more.

    You stole my thunder laugh.gif
