subsea
I just attended my third ARC meeting. I must say that it is a nice mix of advanced/intermediate and beginners. Over the years (more than 35), I have seen one common denominator to this hobby. Willingess to share and help other hobbiest. It is very apparant in ARC. I am happy to be a Premium Member. This club does not require a membership fee and relies strictly on volunteer work by a few key players. You guys and gals know who you'll are and I thank you'll for your efforts. In more than one conversation that I have had with ARC members, the idea of a nickle/dime poker game has come up. I would love to host a gathering of this type on Friday night. At the least, it is cheap intertainment. However, it is another way in which members can get to know each other and have fun together. You'll let me know and I will put it together. As I always say, "La bonne temp roule". Patrick

mFrame
I'd be in as well though I prefer hold-em tournaments with a fixed entry, no re-buys. Maybe we can alternate game types on different nights?
AlexKilpatrick
I recently played in a hold-em tournament with an entry fee of $10. It was my first time, and a lot of fun. However, it seems like it would be a little hard to play without re-buys. Otherwise if you get knocked out early you are just done for the night. At the tournament I played, they had a cash game for the people who were out of the tournament.

innate1
I don't really care how we do it. I just think having more time in a relaxed environment to shoot the bull and get to know some of you guys better would be fun.

I just think having more time in a relaxed environment to shoot the bull and get to know some of you guys better would be fun. It sounds like there are some serious poker plays out there. That was not my focus. I want a relaxed setting to have fun. Because I live so far from what seems to be biggest concentration of ARC members I could see a smaller group: five to 10 players. If more serious players wanted to do a different type of poker, I would enjoy driving to that location. I would say let me host once a month. Other people could host the rest of the month. I was not trying to open up a casino. Let me host this Friday night starting a 7 PM. I'll provide enough finger food to replace the meal. BYOB. I'll provide ice and canned drinks. I live 10 miles southwest of US290 and MoPac. Regards, Patrick 8907 Bear Creek Drive Austin, Tx 78737 512-514-1446 home Innate, thanks for the offer of fold out table. Let's see what the response is like. Patrick

Zarathustra2
I'm up for a game, however we want to play. I do like the poker tourneys tho. Usually we allow rebuys up to a blind amount (say 4th chip up) then after that no more rebuys.
subsea
Not really serious poker but hopefully serious food, fun and fellowship. It has been more than twenty years but the rules have not changed. Dealers choice of game and the deal rotates to the left. I just did play Texas Holdem for the first time two weeks ago. IMO it only becomes interesting when you play no limit. At my house we will not have high limits poker, only unlimited fun. You all call me or commit on this thread and I look forward to seeing you all this Friday, 29 Jan. Patrick
AlexKilpatrick
I don't know if I would call a $10 buy in "serious" But I think there is a balance to be had between completely farting around and playing poker. I have played nickel-ante poker and it was fun, but I don't know if it really captures the flavor of poker. When I played nickel-ante, it was almost impossible to bluff because people would call on just about anything because the amount of money involved was so trivial. Bluffing is an important part of the game, IMHO. $10 seemed like the sweet spot to me. With $10, the pots are decent enough to represent "real" money, but not high enough to where you are really sweating it if you lose.

Alex, I have played poker with more than a years salary in the pot. Bluffing is what seperates poker from play. I should have said let us pretend to play poker and have fun. We can raise the limit, I just did not want any one to be put off or to get hurt financially. Patrick

I can't imagine playing at that level. Was that just a ridiculously high pot, or did you have a huge buy-in to begin with. I agree with you, though. I just wanted to advocate $10 or so buy-in over nickel-ante type stuff. I can't imagine any reefer is put off by $10 for a night of entertainment. subsea
Let us make it happen this Friday. The years salary pot that I mentioned was 40 years ago when as an E4 in the military I made $95 a month. We were playing pot limit poker and the pot had gotten up to $1000. I made a big mistake and won. The man I won from was first sergant. It is not good politics to win money from your boss. Patrick
